Sorry, thought we were talking about middle class neighborhoods here

There is no middle class.

Millennials better snap out of their Democrat-induced socialist coma if the want to live above the level of “existence”.
Most of my millennial friends voted for Trump. We do live in the south, so there is that.
It's like the poster above said. The older millennials are approaching 40.

Wonder how accurate that is.
Take Nola. Yeah you can find a house for under 180k. But it will be falling apart.

Right, I'm 1987 and I was trying to explain to my SIL that we don't have enough in common in how we grew up to be in the same generation, she was born in 1995. People who were born in 1981 probably didn't have the internet until they were out of high school and people born in 1995 probably don't remember a time without the internet.

Earlier you said it wasn't true that millennials have shitty degrees and work at Starbucks and that only dumb "old folks" believe that......now you say those same people don't make over $18.75..........tell me more how dumb other people are ......you're admitting these art idiots can't make a decent living......well no shite
You are falsely assuming these are the exact same group. Just like typical olds, you have no idea what percentage of people hold a degree and what life is life for those with only a highschool diploma in 2019.

Not when you can't afford it and instead bitch and moan about how it's not fair you can't live your preferred lifestyle straight out of school.
That's not how the world works. You may want to live the cool urban hip lifestyle, but unless daddy set up a trust fund for you, it ain't happening unless you're willing to cram yourself in a small apartment or have roommates.
You have choices. Stop bitching about it.

I’d be interested to see the breakdown by degrees. I’m technically in the upper end of the millennial generation and every single person within my social circle is solidly in the middle class or higher.

I'm at the tail end of GenX and ditto. I can't think of a single friend, either here or back home, who are not middle class...and most are upper-middle. A few have broken solidly in to "rich".
The interesting part is the wealthiest person I know started off as a mechanic.

i've been saying for years that with the rapid changes in technology (esp in terms of how we interact and ideas spread), generations are going to get smaller and smaller. it made my heart smile when they crafted the xennial designation for my people who aren't Gen X but aren't really "millenials" either. the people who grew up as kids without the internet and then grew with the internet

the biggest problem with the coastal bohemians is they forget that bohemian living for the non-rich is shitty
these modern kids are too spoiled and won't live in rough areas with brown/black people until the gays tame it first via gentrification
they also want status/prestige jobs
i'll let Kobe summarize:

Im 86 and grew up not knowing what a cell phone was. Yet I am supposed to have common traits with someone born in 2000?
Yeahhh nah baw.

same but my data set is very skewed. a lot of my friend group from school are gifted so their IQs aren't normal. and then i live in an area where uneducated people make 6-figures on the reg
however, two of the more successful people i know are pretty much self made. one is from a well off family but he didn't start out that way and when i first met him he was in recovery and was a low-level realtor. now he owns a development company and is worth mucho. another person i met was a "paralegal" as a firm that neighbored the one i started out as. she broke away and started a medical records processing business as well as a few other businesses and she just posted about buying a classic muscle car at an auction
of course we all live in a "boring" town

Same, everyone in our social circle (40+ people aged 26-32) is at a minimum middle class, a decent percentage would be considered "upper-middle" (or upper, whatever is above what most are considering the middle class band in this thread).

I haven’t dove headfirst in the research but my first reaction is that this complaint is coming from people with non-marketable degrees seeking housing and employment in thriving urban areas.
Clearly, life is going to be difficult if your education is in family studies and you’re trying live in Manhattan.

I never cease to be amazed at how often Millennial threads get posted yet still manage double digit page counts every time

well yeah but those people did exist in the past, it's just that they understood what the life they were getting into meant
social media has made every young kid think they're a "creator" and part of the artist class, but they want to live like a yuppie
sure, you get to be punk rock and tell your parents to frick off
but if you survive, in the end?

I can think of a few that I grew up with but it's their own fault. If you can't make a middle class income by 30, it's your fault, not society's.
