Geographically, most of the country is inexpensive to live. If you have to live in certain neighborhoods, it's going to cost you.

My shite is about to jump up this year, they just built the Houston Sabrecat stadium by the neighborhood.

Most of what I read in this thread is a complaint on inflation. Which is entirely driven by monetary policy. Take it up with the Fed if you have a problem with cheap debt. The route our government has decided to take with deficit spending and cheap debt access to spur growth will create an economic environment that we have now. I'd suggest getting used to it, kids.

Yeah but which places have the most jobs in different industries. $60k+ a year jobs grow on trees here in Dallas. Not so much in smaller areas. DFW is blowing up because of the job market. People aren't just coming here for fun.

I agree. But to be fair, I think your profession and salary must be taken into consideration. It may be difficult to find a job in your profession in a more rural area. You could argue that a longer commute is an option, and it is.
Salary should also be a factor because if your pay is low regardless of location, then you are better off in a small town where you can save money.

Oh look. A millennial blaming whatever’s wrong in the world on someone else. How surprising.

LOL. Trust me, it's not exactly what I envisioned say 8 years ago, but we are able to support that "nightmare" of a life just fine. It honestly blows my mind when people my age with far less financial burden complain about not having enough to do X,Y,Z. It's almost always a problem with their outlook on life.

Truth. Most Millenials expect it right out of college. Work your way up
I’m 28 and make between 80-90k a year but I’m a rare exception where I’ve been working in catfish farming since I was 10 yrs old and through my dad who also does it learned a lot of knowledge and connections.

You got handed a job thanks to your dad.

I have 3 children in their 20s and they average about $60k income (and the better educated make less money at this point
).

Also, "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer" is actually completely delusional and an irrelevant point. Our poor live the highest standard of living probably ever. I would think comparing our poor to other countries lower income households and you would be painting a more fair argument of the conditions of our lower income population.
You hit the nail on the head. I shake my head every time a politician says "we have to do something about our poor! They shouldn't have to live in poverty like this!"
What a crock of shite. We haven't had poverty in this country in years. You want to see poverty? Go spend some time in rural India or China. Or most of Africa.

I understand you have a strong financial background. Could the same be said on how our government handles welfare? People complain about it, but there's never any political push to actually change it.

Everyone else has had it easier than me. That’s what every generation says.
No.
I don't think people born before ~1940 had it easier than anyone after. The people born ~1940-~1965 have had it the easiest. US economy booming, college was cheap, and home ownership was relatively cheap. The worst they had it was drafted to Vietnam and the oil crisis.
Gen X and millenials are dealing with the largest generation that is holding onto jobs to maintain their wealth/sense of purpose. The boomers decided to make a large profit off of everything. A majority of kids come out of college and society has turned them into indentured servants for 10-15 years unless mommy and daddy pay for it. Not to mention this 18 year long war on terror and an economy that is finally starting to rebound.

Inflation has been basically nonexistent for 15 years.
I remember when 20 oz cokes were like a dollar. Now they're 1.99 and I'm only 33

So does a good chunk of Central America. Which is why I don't blame illegal immigrants for trying to come here. I instead blame the institutions and systems that makes it worthwhile for them to do so.

It needs overhauled but no one has the guts, politically. Any real change will be labeled "hating on the poor."
Probably 30% of adults in this country are functionally unemployable for any real length of time and for any real purpose. I feel for the incapable, I don't feel for the lazy.
Welfare needs to be a hand up, not a handout.
