The police should have informed them of their infraction and sent them on their way. Silly to waste resources on them.

maybe they shouldnt have lied to the cops about having special permission from a made up police chief to patrol the area as a state militia?

By definition an assault rifle cannot be semi-auto.

It looks like some of our fine folks down in the political board have formed a militia.

Good for them.

The thing here is he would have been thousands of feet from the nearest school building, but technically "on campus" because LSU owns a short stretch of the levee.

The location in the article is vague, but "near Skip Bertman Dr," would put them pretty close to the vet school, easily within "thousands" of feet.

I got busted shooting a pellet gun in the coulee that dumps into the vermillion river that borders USL farm property. USL cop takes my pellet gun and told me to go see dean Pratt. I told dean Pratt that I was on public propery and wanted my gun back, and that the USL cop was an idiot. I was handed my gun and walked across campus with it, back to my bicycle. I thought for sure I was going to get shot. Things were diferent back then (circa 1993).

My oldest took a riflery and handgun course on campus his senior year.

How do they handle the range there?

I took it my senior year, each week or so you go to class and the give up at different gun. Start with rifles and then move to handguns, end with M16s. All ammo was .22.

Also, for what it's worth, the second amendment guarantees the right to bear arms, and that supercedes any state laws that forbid any form of carrying, concealed or otherwise.

Are you a strict "original intent" guy? Because it certainly was not intended that way.
