Did you know that the Radio battalions have 0321s? They have a recon platoon that sends radio guys through BRC.

Thinking about that statement made about PJs being glorified medics, kinda bothered me.They are medics but they are warriors also and will do whatever it takes to accomplish their mission with no concern for their own safety. That being said, there are no flies on any medics or corpsman.I was never in combat but from my reading and talking to vets the medics are some of the bravest guys on the battlefield. It takes a special kinda of courage to leave a sheltered position, charge into a hornets nest of fire to try and save a wounded soldier.

PJ’s and 18D are damned near trauma PA’s. They get way more specialized training than “combat medics”.

Who knew the OT had so many experts on something the government spends so much effort to keep secret? It is amazing really.
Why did you respond to me with that?
Because I ran into two guys who worked for the same multinational Corporation?

Because you were the last post. It had nothing to do with you specifically, but the thread in general.

The Avengers. Led by a World War 2 Combat Special Operations vet, roster includes a Norse God, two special operations spies with special skill sets, one genius tech who built an arc reactor that never existed before while imprisoned in a desert cave, and very, very angry Gamma radiation infused green giant.
The Avengers.
The Avengers.

There is literally no reason for everyone to get their panties in a bunch over my comment. PJ’s are medics. Sure they’re highly trained but so are 18D’s and NSW Corpsmen. It’s a completely redundant group and the only reason they get attached to SOF units in combat is so the Air Force can justify their existence. The Army and Navy would be perfectly fine using their own medical personnel.
For that matter there’s no reason the Army cant train it’s own JTACs. TACP should be an Army function.

You don't see the need for them in the future though? Air Force has the helicopters and is likely operating most of the rescue missions, I honestly don't see your beef here on why they shouldn't have PJ's to rescue their own guys.
They aren't going on other missions because they are needed, they are going because they otherwise have nothing to do. This could be said for a lot of units. That doesn't mean we should disband every unit that isn't currently needed.

I can think of two planes that went down behind enemy lines in truly hostile territory in the last 30 years. The PJs didn’t do the rescue on either one. If I’m missing something please let me know.
quote:If the need arose to start rescuing downed pilots by the bushel I’m sure the Army or Marines could handle it as they’ve done in the past. And frankly I have a hard time imagining that scenario anyway. If we go to war with Russia or China our pilots shot down behind enemy lines are SOL because it would simply be to dangerous to send a helicopter in to rescue them. And if it’s not too dangerous then there’s no need to have such a highly specialized unit to do it.

Is there a rough number on the current SF,SOFs in the military right now? There is roughly 2500 active seals so I would think 5k at least.
Sounds like we need to start disbanding the regular military and give more roles to SFs or start cross training the SF and whittle the SF down. I say we start with the PJs.
