Maybe Friedrich Paulus, Field Marshall.
Definitely Not Paulus.. I wish I had the database of German vehicle numbers, we could trace the car.

His downfall was when he got implicated in conspiring to overthrow Hitler in "Operation Valkyrie" and was given the choice of either suicide or being tried as a conspirator and have his reputation tarnished before being executed.
It's likely the fallout could've been much greater than execution. Many Valkyrie conspirators were tortured and hung crudely and slowly, and their families and associates followed.
It was an especially dark time in a dark decade.

However, one of the main conspirators, Claus von Stauffenberg's family was allowed to live and his wife died at age 92 in 2006.

He was a great tactical commander as shown in France and a poor operational commander as shown in North Africa.
Probably the best description of Rommel one could make. In a tactical level, he was pure genius. But, like all German generals, his weaknesses was when it comes to logistics. I can’t really fully blame him though, the entire German military never really wrapped its arms around logistics either. It’s almost like they put their full focus on being the most tactically efficient military in the world while relegating logistics to a secondary concern.
Of course, had the Germans taken logistics seriously, they’d have never dared to have do anything that could remotely lead to another world war.

Winston Churchill thought he was good and respected him.
"We have a very daring and skillful opponent against us, and, may I say across the havoc of war, a great general." Winston Churchill

Here's an original photo that I own... Can anyone name the General? I have no clue who it is. Facebook answers are all over the place. I believe the area to be Russia. The Gen and Car Wehrmacht, and the car a Corps Headquarters. I know vehicles in Gudarians Division/Corps had a large G... So I am thinking the S should give us some insight into who it may be.

The flag and placard on the car indicates it belongs to a corps commander. And that second picture is of General Walther Schroth. But he never commanded VII Armeekorps. He did however command XII Armeekorps though until early 1942. So it’s entirely possible this picture was taken in Russia.
