I know a lot of people have a long time girlfriend at home, then they go off to boot camp and miss them like crazy. Once they get out of boot camp they ask said girlfriend to marry them... I saw it happen over and over.
I for one avoided the situation and held out until I was 35... Going on 10 years very happily married (been a civilian for 24 years)

Smart? Nope. If it was you wouldn't see the vast majority refusing to reenlist.
The majority never intend to do more than one term in the first place, IMO. People choose to join for a variety of reasons so I disagree that you just categorically label it as "Smart? Nope".
If they want to serve their country it's not a dumb decision. If they want to get paid to go to college it's not a dumb decision. If they're lacking in direction and/or discipline and want to do something interesting while they work on that, it's not a dumb decision. If they're trying to fast track into certain civilian careers it's not a dumb decision. etc...
If they're looking for high pay, a relaxed work environment, and a 9-5 schedule it probably isn't a smart decision.

It's not just military, it's pretty much everyone who gets married at that age.

Getting married that young

Let's bypass the fact that this statement isn't even remotely true and let's insist that you provide evidence supporting this.
Before you do so, let me preemptively counter with the fact that, since 2013, there have been caps in place for how many Soldiers per Brigade are actually allowed to reenlist. They have to go before boards and are placed in an order of merit list to do so.
Starting in 2014, the QMP and OSB boards went full blast, culling a lot of the E5-E7 and O3-O4 population.

True. Plus the military offers some serious incentives for getting married that look pretty good to a PFC in the barracks.

Deployed twice, traveled the world, seen places most wish they could. Tons of weapons and leadership training. Got 2 BS degrees with no debt using the GI Bill, purchased my home at an incredibly low interest rate using a VA home loan, and I’m paid for the rest of my life through VA disability compensation for injuries while on AD.
It’s worked out pretty damn well for me. Most people my age have a mountain of student loan debt and the ones that don’t will be working offshore for the rest of their lives. Some of the smartest people I’ve ever met were in the service. If you had the sack to join you may have gotten to see that.

So many people I know that get married and have kids at 23 or younger are either trashy or in the military.
Let's face it, the venn diagram of these two groups is really just one circle.

It's the fastest way out of the barracks and to get that glorious BAH/ComRats.
This was probably the main reason I got out too. Married guys (including E3 and below) getting special treatment and extra pay.

For the life of me I can’t understand why a young dude would go in the military as enlisted with a wife or get married while on AD with the possibility of deploying? Maybe as an O but then again Chad would be banging an Officer’s old lady instead of Jody while he is out on deployment.

a Marine Commandant (either Krulak or Mundy) wanted to forbid young Marines from getting married on their first enlistment...
good idea in my opinion, but Peppermint Patty Schroder had to stick her oar in and say "it's not fair" and stopped it...
read Terminal Lance if you want an idea of the antics...
I think first termers should be required to stay in the barracks unless you have kids. If there isn't enough room then start letting NCOs move out, in order of TIG/TIS. No more of that geo bachelor shite either.

For some (like me) it's because of the fact that it's pretty difficult to maintain a long term relationship on AD without being married.

Guy I work with's son dropped out of college and joined the Army. Less than a year after graduating AIT or whatever they call it now, he's married with a kid, on that baller E2 pay and allowances.

People aren't exactly deploying nowadays. Of course there's always the risk of getting stuck in Germany or Japan for 2-3 years.

Do you know where he's stationed? E5 and below with dependents can get some serious coin.

The entire cuck deal started in the military with deployments

Oh yeah. Pull that card. I've seen a few bad arse enlisted / former enlisted.I've seen more "Radar" geek types than anything. But please, let's equate enlisting with testicular fortitude.

Anyone who signs up voluntarily to get yelled at @0stupidoclock probably isn't in the business of making the best decisions.
It was partly a business decision for me that worked out OK.
I’m not an OT baller but I now make north of 170k with nothing more than a high school diploma and five years in the Corps. I was granted a 20k sign on bonus by the FAA for my experience in the military while the Emery Riddle kids started out with hourly wages and 100k in student debt if they were hired at all. I’ll be promoted faster too.
I earn more than five weeks of payed vacation a year (military time counts for that also) and that’s not including sick leave, time off awards, comp time off and credit leave.
Plus my life is probably cheaper than yours. From hotels to health insurance a only pay about a third what the average person pays.
I only work 40 hr weeks and take none of it home with me. My VA benefits will put two of my three kids through college and also paid me a supplemental salary while I was in training. I’ll be retired by age 51(military counts toward that too).
I guess I could keep going but you get the picture.
All made possible from my time enlisted in the USMC
