So many people I know that get married and have kids at 23 or younger are either trashy or in the military. While on deployment, their wife proceeds to get Jody'd and they get a divorce. Seems to be the result for about 75% of these relationships.

Anyone who signs up voluntarily to get yelled at @0stupidoclock probably isn't in the business of making the best decisions.

Edit before the landslide of down votes.

Is the decision to join the military courageous? yes. honorable? yes. Worth of respect? yes. Smart? Nope. If it was you wouldn't see the vast majority refusing to reenlist.

Get paid a lot more $ for being married and living out in town vs being single and living in the barracks. once you get divorced they don’t stop paying you and make you move into the barracks. So it’s a win.

A buddy of mine knew a Security Forces troop with a wife and young kids. The SF troop deployed but came home earlier than expected. Jody was getting out of the shower, while the ole lady was basking in the aftermath. shite hit the fan! Divorced and she got custody of the kids.

I have a cousin by marriage whose son is maybe 25 now, Army, on his 3rd divorce already. This is after I told him before the 1st marriage to avoid marriage if possible due to being the man he's gonna get raped by the legal system in divorce, especially being military.

Poor guy's only chance to ever get peace in his life is to die in combat now as he has at least 1 kid by each wife. Tied to all 3 ex wives in perpetuity.

I heard about a friend of a friend that was in Iraq and called home, his wife says she thinks they should have an open marriage. He comes home and she's blown through all his savings and within 6 months is pregnant with someone else's kid.

But they're stationed in Kentucky where you can't divorce your pregnant wife no matter what. So he had to stay married to her until she squeezed out the little bastard. Poor baw

<------Gained a shite ton of real world medical experience, returned to LSU, used the GI bill, graduated with a second degree with a 3.95 GPA and am now pursuing PA School.

But yep, such a dumb decision.

I'm glad you set the cutoff at 23.

I got married at 24. Reason being that we had been together for three years and I came down on orders for Germany so my choices were break up, a very long distance relationship, or get married. So I gambled.

Worked out for me (closing in on 20 years) but I've seen a lot of them crash and burn. Matter of fact, not a single one of the couples we used to hang out with in Germany is still together.

You also have kids that grew up with nothing, in crime ridden areas become doctors. But exceptions to the statement made don't make it untrue.

a Marine Commandant (either Krulak or Mundy) wanted to forbid young Marines from getting married on their first enlistment...

good idea in my opinion, but Peppermint Patty Schroder had to stick her oar in and say "it's not fair" and stopped it...

read Terminal Lance if you want an idea of the antics...

I apologize for hurting your theory

Do you have any actual evidence to support the idea that joining the military is never a smart thing to do?

Clearly some military dudes have been knocking the bottom out of your girl. You seem triggered and jealous.

I remember this. Everyone knew it wouldn't be enforceable but it was a great idea.
