I knew all those guys. I worked at the tv station that taped the interviews and the shows. My boss was technical director of the taping of the matches. When he was on vacation I taped the shows. We used to tape at the tv station but then we moved the taping to Irish McNeils.
Used to bet college football with Dick Murdoch. Bill Watts was a great guy. Most of them were really good guys. Knew Steve Williams very well God rest his soul.
I'm here to tell you now.....the baddest man of all of them (not mean), the one guy nobody would want to mess with was Danny Hodge.

The best was when Michael Hayes put the mystical cream in JYD's eyes and he was blind for like 3 months. Then a punch to the head restored his vision....
And he destroyed the freebirds, while Boyd price went cray-cray on the mic..

Anyone on here remember going to the Tag Team Tournament for Mid-South in the Superdome in the early 80's? The final match was The Road Warriors vs Ronnie Garvin and Magnum T A. Ronnie Garvin broke his hand when he went to go deliver his signature punch and Hawk and Animal ended up wining.

While I was going to college at McNeese I was at home for the weekend or holidays. A day or two before returning to Lake Charles some friends and I went to Alexandria to watch the matches. When I got back to LC some of the guys in the dorm were going so I went again. It was the exact same show.
Jake Roberts was about to wrestle someone and Precious Paul Ellering wound up in the ring before the wrestlers came down. He, of course, had the microphone and did one of the funniest wrasslin diatribes ever.
He insulted everybody. He started by calling out Paul OrnDORK, then he went on a rant about DIRTY Rhodes and then got around to Jake "the RAKE" Roberts. Jake came running down and chased him around and through the ring for about 5 minutes. It was so hilarious - I didn't mind seeing the same show twice.
Orndorf = Orndork
, Jake the Snake = Jake the Rake and Dusty became Dirty.
I once saw Orndork in the Shreveport airport. He was doing a handstand with his feet against the wall just pressing himself up and down like he was a piece of paper and he was a pretty BIG guy. He was doing it right there by the terminal with everyone watching. I damn sure didn't approach him and nobody else did either.

I remember the first time I saw Sting and the Ultimate Warrior. They were in Mid-South as a tag team known as the Blade Runners. Sting was wrestling as Flash back then. Warrior was going by Rock.
One wrestler in the NWA out of Atlanta that was very popular, world champion by beating Harley Race, had matches against Ric Flair and then just totally seemed to fall off the face of the earth was Tommy "Wilfire" Rich.
Other guys from Mid-South - Stan Hansen, Bruiser Brody, Wahoo McDaniel, Wild Samoans, Great Kabuki, Kimala, Road Warriors and Jim Duggan to name a few.

My great grandfather loved wrestling. I'd go spend Saturday nights with him and we'd watch Mid South on Sunday morning. We'd get him front row tickets when they had a live match.
I remember Skandar Akbar burning Johnny Eagles eyes with some kind of lighter/spray. He's lucky it didn't catch his chest - it looked like a Persian rug.
Colonel Buck Robley looked like he had to stop working on cars in the yard to come wrestle. Pot belly with long greasy hair, in a tight yellow T shirt is the way I remember him.
Later, when TBS had Austin Idol, my little brother got the figure four applied to him on a regular basis. Lucky we didn't become disabled.
Good memories.

I remember at a house show in Houma Dibiase demanded Stagger Lee come out and unmask to prove he wasn't Junkyard dog. And he did. Except Stagger Lee had lost about 150 pounds and become a white guy.
Dibiase was incensed, and the interviwer guy couldn't understand why.
