Right, which is exactly why culture and policy are not independent of each other...
They’re not completely independent of each other, but there is enough that is that one could address one without the other. And the independence should be evident in the disparate culture around guns from people who are share similar policy views.
quote:

Why would we want that? Kids should be educated and trained, not terrified into thinking guns are something they aren't. That's no better than treating them as "status symbols or toys."
I don’t mean like terrified if their dad is handling a gun or they get taken to the range. But they should be terrified if they came across it on their own, especially if others don’t have the understanding of the safety, as they should be terrified of what guns can do if not properly handled and/or if one cannot properly handle it (people have killed themselves shooting guns at the range because they didn’t prepare for the kickback).

Maybe terrified isn’t the right word, but cautious for sure. That said, similar to be cautious of traffic, people should be terrified with what traffic could do if you don’t follow the basic safety rules, or even if you do, if drivers aren’t.

Eta: talking about mass killing and political bs that is. Economic and education are off the table

Texas and Florida keep us in the running. They are second and third on the list of mass shootings. Combined they are still less than California, though. Columbine usually gets credit for beginning of mass school shootings, but Mississippi was ahead of the curve with Pearl High School.

Knew shooter was black when they didn’t immediately say he was white.
And we won’t get the usual Gun Control bulkshit.

Well I knew he was black because they immediately said they were looking for a black suspect.

Then why do other countries with huge entitlement programs, not have the same homicide rates that we have here?

Because other countries don't have to deal with a violent subculture that views doing prison time as a badge of honor and thinks killing someone is how to handle "being disrespected."

quote:

In addition, since entitlement programs typically go to females and kids, of both sexes, why is there such a disproportionately higher homicide rates of one sex, across races, and even independent of entitlements?

Adrenaline and testosterone.

quote:

In other words, I don’t think entitlement programs, regardless of what reforms should be made, have much to do with it, other than being correlated with some characteristics of those more likely to be in them and more likely to commit homicide. Crime and poverty are linked strongly. I don’t think taking away entitlement programs, would reduce homicides, since poverty would either stay the same or increase.

Fatherless homes are the main culprit. That same subculture I was talking about above just happens to have a damn near 80% birth rate out of wedlock. That's not a coincidence.
