Michael K. Williams, an Emmy-nominated actor who brought dazzling menace to HBO’s crime series “The Wire” as Omar Little, a fearsome Baltimore robber, and also appeared in shows including “Boardwalk Empire” and “Lovecraft Country,” was found dead Sept. 6 in his Brooklyn apartment. He was 54.

A spokesperson for the New York Police confirmed his death but did not provide additional details. Mr. Williams earned four Emmy nominations as a supporting actor, including for playing Bessie Smith’s husband, Jack Gee, in the TV movie “Bessie” (2015). He also played Chalky White on the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire” and appeared in movies such as “12 Years a Slave” (2013). But he remained best known for his starmaking role in “The Wire,” a portrait of Baltimore crime and corruption that aired on HBO for five seasons beginning in 2002.

One of my favorite character actors. He was great as Omar and Chalky White.

Truly a shame.

Wire or Boardwalk? I wanted him to survive both.

The Wire. You knew he wasnt going to last but being killed by some little kid in the store was lame as shite.

There were several cast members in the Wire that were either gang members or ex-cons. I think Omar was one of those but don't remember for sure.

That's what was so brilliant about it. It wasn't some epic guns blazing firefight but just the random meaningless of every day death in the ghetto. It happens every day. I loved that the writers did that.

Yea I get the greatness of it, but after he defied death like a superhuman before, it was a letdown.

Bodie was the worst death on the show imo. I actually yelled at the tv at like 4am

MKW wasn’t, but I think the real Omar (the person who the character is based on) has a very small role in the show. Snoop for sure put in work prior to her time on screen.
