Although I seem to be almost the only person holding this view, I find this trial to be so ridiculous and such a blatant money grab by the states. I have never heard of a more ridiculous lawsuit in my life, except for possibly the previous 2 "addiction" trials that META also lost.

Like basically our whole economic system centers on companies that are all trying to addict people.

Like imagine if people sued TV shows for trying to addict them or sued Cheetos for trying to addict them. Or if parents sued toy car companies for putting lights on top of the toy cars in order to addict little boys. Everybody would think those lawsuits would be so absurd.

Yet we're supposed to sue META for doing the same thing that those companies do?

META claims that they're being sued for $1.4 trillion or their entire market value, although the states claim they're "only" suing for $200 billion.

I hate Zuckerberg, but this lawsuit is so ridiculous.

I also believe it's the same. Is Tony the Tiger next?

At the heart of your argument there is some merit. But go further, into the levels of damage done. E.g., Cheetos and suicides are hardly comparable.

I think it’s good

Social media should be illegal

Since that’s not gonna happen the states might as well get money

People said the same thing about the tobacco company lawsuits (and I agreed with those criticisms for a host of reasons).

Social media is more addictive (by design) and far more destructive.

Yeah, you could argue that the very Tony the Tiger symbol is addictive. And you'd have an even stronger argument that the sugary content in Frosted Flakes cereal is addictive.

Speaking of Tiger things, you could also argue that Tigerdroppings is addictive, although IDK if Tigerdroppings has enough money that anybody would bother to sue them.

There's really no limit on the things you could argue are addictive.

And really the real purpose of this lawsuit is to force digital ID onto people's online activity.

Correct.

Without an addictive element, people eventually move on to other consumption.
