God forbid the current generation actually address mental health rather than continuing the cycle of self-loathing and PBR twelve packs on a Tuesday night

Former military and now teacher. I've seen nothing positive in what the profession has tried to accomplish in both realms. I've tried to be open minded about it, but have always come to the conclusion that it is either done incompetently or in a way that is corrupt for the organizations they serve or the practitioners themselves.

Well that’s a fairly broad brush to paint with. Let’s just give up on all of it.

I can have mania or depression. Trust me it’s real.

Manic episodes feel so good.

I’m diagnosed with schizoaffective.

Are you taking anything for it (if you don’t mind me asking)? I’m always curious what works for folks with your diagnosis (and similar).

But you just said absenteeism should = firing.

You do realize people can just take their PTO and say they’re taking time off for their mental health right?

Typical therapist. Just dismiss my "anxieties" and "depression" about two of the most important institutions in American society.

I didn’t dismiss them. I’m dismissing your ignorant assumption that all therapists are narcissist and only in it for themselves.

No it normally involves 12 weeks of FMLA, 4 weeks of leave of absence. 1/3 of the year missed because said employee was to depressed to earn their keep.

You forgot about the other half of my assumption, that they are incompetent. Why did you only focus in on the narcissist part?

I don’t believe all therapists are incompetent either.

That would be like me telling you all US military is incompetent because of the Vietnam War.

But hey, if that’s the hill you want to die on.

Naomi Osaka is a prime current example. Didn’t want to get interviewed and said she’d pay the fine, then faced backlash for not wanting to do her interview (which is part of her fricking job) so she just quits the French open and cites “mental health” as the issue

Michael Jordan did it...he just did it under a different banner, but for the actual same reason.

Therapy is showing more and more efficacious as compared to long term medication for common mental health problems. I say that as someone who takes the medical approach. Therapist have value.

You must know a lot about her to know that's the only issue that's troubling her.

The loss in the Vietnam War was a result of incompetence, narcissism, and hedonism (another fault of the modern "mental health" movement and culture).

Is self-criticism frowned upon during therapy?

You’re just shooting your shot today.

No? Depending on the theory you’re using there’s a lot of self-evaluation, taking responsibility for your behaviors, and addressing negative schemas for positive change.
