I was only asking how these people make money on these things. I was under the assumption these were an invitation only event where the big movers and shakers in the fashion world came to see what is new in their industry for them to invest in at their shops or clothing chains or whatever.

Major fashion shows are about setting trends, not selling those pieces. Will we see grey accordion pants with a hundred horizontal pleats? Of course not. But the fabrics, colors, patterns, and construction techniques on display very well might find themselves worked into high fashion next season and then "regular" fashion in a few years.

Fashion shows in general, and high fashion in particular, is about expressing a story through clothing. They do this through exaggeration of the clothing characteristics that speak most to the theme they're getting at.
Brands around the world are inspired by these shows and the themes/pieces with the most resonance, and they make clothes for normal rich people. Then mid-tier brands rip-off the rich people brands. Then fast fashion rips off those brands. Then, 10 years after the initial design, it's on the clearance rack at Wal-Mart.
So, no, you aren't going to see accordion pants at J Crew anytime soon.
