I have a pair of Chippewas and a pair of Justin boots (both work boots) and like both. Chippewas more comfortable, Justin slightly better looking. I like that the Chippewa are made in America and are at a good price point.

About 20 years ago shortly after they expanded their line of products I bought a pair of Ariat paddock boots and they never fit properly on my male feet. Maybe that has changed since then, but if I were you I would be careful with them.
I worked at a Cavenders in college and can comfortably state that Ariat's were our highest selling boot both years I was there.
Now that doesn't mean they're the best or anything, but for the price, I think the boot, personally, is well made.
What size boot do you wear? Is it a weird size like a EE or something? I just wear a 10D so that's essentially impossible to screw up.
Also, I'd assume that you know that you typically always wear boots a half size smaller at least than the size of a normal shoe. I only ask because I've dealt with plenty of people who bitched about a boot not fitting right only to realize that they thought because they wore an 11 in running shoes, they wore an 11 in boots as well.

Get a nice pair of semi understated Lucchese roper's or western's and be done with it. Anything else either looks trashy or uptown Dallas try hard (you know who you are).

Yup.... you can find them online all the time for good prices. Cavenders always has some on sale as well.
That being said. Get fitted before buying and not all brands fit the same way. If you buy lucchese (any good boot for that matter) make sure the boot "pops" when it goes on. You will probably wear smaller than you think. Doing otherwise would be the equivalent of spending $400 on a pair of Allen Edmonds online before getting fitted. Not going to wear right and more than likely will end up being to loose within a few months of wearing them.

Twisted X is a cheaper brand of decent quality.

I've heard some good things about Twisted X.
I'm not a big fan of the way they they stitch the shaft, but I know plenty of people who wear them regularly.
I've also been told their steel toes are great as well.

OP, you working in these or looking for a nice pair of boots for casual wear? Purpose of said boots will (should) influence any responses. Doubt you're gonna want full quill ostrich for working

Both, although the type of work that I do does not require any manual labor. However, I will be on my feet quite a bit throughout the day.
And I'm looking for something that I can wear out with jeans and a dress shirt.

Ariat. But honestly, I have never owned a comfortable boot under $150. They go cheap on the sole and stitching, which makes them heavy and never last. Spend some cash, and expect to have them for 10 plus years. I am still wearing a pair of Ariats I bought 4 years ago. Will go high end when the wear out.

Full quils aren't out of the question then.
However, if you're going to wear them a lot and won't switch up footwear, I'd suggest finding a rubber sole. Most full quil boots come with leather soles and they will wear out after a time.
I probably have to get my most worn pair resoled once every two years or so. Costs about $75, not too much or anything, but you should know.

gotcha. I'd go with a basic roper style boot. I've got a couple of pairs of full quill ostrich Justin ropers that look fine with jeans. I have no complaints about Justin or Ariat. both are comfortable.

Those are sharp.
I'm not a huge hornback caiman fan, but I like that lighter color.
