Having a hard time believing Memphis and Detroit are more dangerous than TJ at 21.

God, look at South Africa. Five of the Top Eight.

And many of us had to spend our childhood being lectured that the white colonizers there were the most evil and destructive force on the planet.

Yeah, good work.

Can't quite put my finger on it but I'm noticing a common theme in that list

I've lived in Germantown all my life, but have worked in downtown Memphis since 1993. Never once been a party of ANY type of crime, period. You just have to know where to go and where to not go. And be ever mindful that the "where not to go" keeps creeping outward.

btw did the Memphis Police ever get to the bottom of the mysterious case of local DJ Slikk Rick (sp) and the detachment of his head from his body??

last I heard, detectives were unsure what could have possibly caused this injury and were trying to determine if foul play was involved…TIA

Just spent 5 days in Memphis and it was wonderful. Walked all around downtown with no issues. Come to think of it, it did coincide with Essence Fest in Nola.

It’s a good thing South Africa got rid of the pesky Dutch heritage people in their government, right?

I guess it depends on how they define crime, but I'd take my chances of survival in any of these cities over anywhere in SE Afghanistan

Me too. They're only dangerous if you associate with criminal elements or hang out in areas where those people do.

I was in Detroit for a a few days earlier thsi yera and absolutely loved it. Never once felt unsafe and we walked everywhere we went. We also didn't walk towards the hood and were back in our pad after dinner time.

It's quite simple really. There are two areas of Memphis, both easily avoidable and out of the way, that are warzones. Chances are you will be fine if you don't go there.

Or you could go for a morning jog and get clubbed over the head and murdered.

Alice Springs is one of the most isolated cities imaginable. It's well known for its crime and mental health numbers, per capita.

That's unfathomable. We all know of small, Podunk towns that have huge drug and crime issues, but for it to be that bad is an incredible feat.
