Uh, your subject pool is a little tainted here.
If this is true (sauces?) all this stat says is that people who play the lottery aren't great with money/investments. Shocker.
I'm pretty confident the average Joe (i.e. pretty much anybody that functions in a professional working environment) could manage to not go broke after winning $100+ million powerball.
But those aren't the people that win the powerball.

I would buy the absolute best seats in Tiger Stadium then never sit in them.
