Marcellus Gilmore Edson (February 7, 1849 – March 6, 1940) was an English Canadian chemist (pharmacist), and the first person to patent peanut paste, which he did in 1884. (Peanut flour already existed.) His cooled product had "a consistency like that of butter, lard, or ointment", according to his patent application.

He included the mixing of sugar into the paste to harden its consistency.[1] Edson developed the idea of peanut paste as a delicious and nutritious foodstuff for people who could hardly chew solid food, a common state in those days. Peanut paste was initially sold for six cents per pound.[2]

The next day he became the first person to put peanut paste on his balls and have a dog lick it off.

Hey buddy, it's black history month. Don't try to steal the peanut attention from George Washington Carver aka the black leonardo da vinci. GWC invented peanuts.

Popular misconception. He only invented the shell which allowed the nut meat to fully form and provided for a more stable transport.

the nut meat

I could go for a nut meat paste and jelly sandwich right now.

Eta: I wonder how nut meat compares to grill nutt.
