yeah, but it was something that was more evident when I was way too old for sesame st.

3, 4 and 5 year olds...they can't tell you're different. I didn't even know, but looking back on things I can tell you that divide started becoming a problem or noticeable to everyone (adults and kids) when I was in 2nd or maybe 3rd grade

I also barely talked until I was 5, and around 2nd grade I wouldn't shut the frick up. still can't

Have you been around kids at all since then? If you listen to kids, theyre constantly asking why people and other kids are different from them. Apparently my parents had to stop taking me to stores because I liked to ask questions like "Why is that lady so fat?" or "Why is that man brown?"

If we're being completely honest, that puppet looks like it has Rainman-tier levels of autism

Don't interact with an autistic kid in real life? Have you seen the statistics of how many kids are on the autism spectrum these days? I guarantee you that most kids interact with a kid with autism. That's the point of what Sesame Street is doing.

My son is autistic and it's my experience that the other kids accept and understand better than adults. The other kids may not understand why he's different but they accept it and actually go out of their way to help and include my son.

This is a good thing that Sesame Street is doing but to me it won't hit the audience that needs to have better understanding... adults.

Yes and those questions are geared towards very superficial things like "why is that man so fat" or "why can't that girl walk?"

Kids are going to be kids. No matter how much intervention you put them through, they are going to shun the "different" kids. The best you can do is teach them not to be assholes as they grow into teenagers and adults. Once they get into high school, if they are assholes to different kids, then they are going to be assholes their entire miserable lives. Which means the parents are too.

Holy shite I didn't finish reading your post and made the same point

I don't care they did it. Great, whatever, but it's not about the audience so much as making adults feel good about themselves.

Actually one of the more clever fictional portrayals of high functioning autism is archer.

holeesheet this. I can't deal with this. especially when the parent says "they are on the spectrum" but it's obvious that the kid doesn't have a lick of autism at all. They just dont want to eat vegetables and the parents give in way to easily.

What the hell does eating vegetables and autism have to do with each other?

a lot. there are so many foods an autistic kid won't eat because of the sound it makes chewing it or the texture

it's way over diagnosed, and I can see why some legit cases of high functioning kids get the view from people "oh that kid is just a brat".

This I can get on board with.

However, I have seen an autistic 5 year old body slam my 2 year old at a birthday party. My kid had a concussion from it. All because he thought my kid was "in his space". And to top it all off, little Auttie's parents refused to pay for my doctor visit after I showed them the bill. I let it go because they have a burden to carry that I don't but I don't subscribe to letting these kids be around others when they have violent tendencies.

The sad truth is some people have disabilities that exclude them from most aspects of normal life.
