My son has crazy memory. For example, he has a fascination with Google maps. He'll spend hours on it memorizing streets, store locations, etc. He can tell us how to get to certain locations (take a left, right, etc.), and what towns all Piggly Wigglys are located in SELA. It's very remarkable.

My son is about to be seven years old and he is the exact same way. I have a friend that lives northwest of Houston and my son has only been to his house a few times in his life. He found my buddies house in 10 minutes on google and we are around Houma, La.

My 12 yr old son is moderate/severe autistic. He has a neurotypical twin sister.

Started 40+ hours/week of ABA at age 2.
Constant meltdowns/tantrums.
ABA therapy helped.
Non Verbal until age 5/6.
We put him in Jiu Jitsu. In my opinion, hands down one of the best therapies for autistic kids.

He coaches/demonstrates in little kids class.
Meltdowns have stopped. There are some events/triggers which we know will cause him anxiety but it’s manageable.

We started giving him CBD oil about a month ago for anxiety and concentration at school. Not sure if it has improved.

Jiu Jitsu calmed him down. Taught him how to think and not panic while in an uncomfortable situation.

Temple Grandin used the cow hugger to calm down. Kids use weighted blankets. A kid in a gi is a weighted blanket with arms/legs.

Also, his autism superpower is if you give him a date in history he will tell you what day of the week it occurred.
Ex: What day was July 4, 1776? That was a Thursday dad.
I must admit it is a pretty cool party trick.

No answers but here to say I feel your pain. We have a 15 year old girl who just fot suspended for her 10th day of her freshman year. She stole chips from the school store because she was hungry.

She has such potential but keeping her in school is just so hard and not getting angry when she does the wrong thing is so hard. We have tried every med and every therapy and while she doesn't tear up a room anymore she still struggles to function.

At what age did he start talking?

Hmmm! I'd have to ask the ex, but I don't remember him being very far behind his peers.

He's very verbal, but he has difficulty with coherent sentence structure. He also does a lot of scripting.

My friend who is in the field parroted the mood stabilizer by Scruffy. And not official medical advice: but speak to the school psychologist for home suggestions or outside support. There’s no as needed medication, it’ll be a lot of behavioral correction work.

Gladly. Will spend some time with my well behaved, spanked when needed child. Y'all keep medicating and struggling.

You and Gaston should both be banned. I am 100% against banning for posters who are simply going back and forth

But what y’all are “joking” about is the equivalent of telling a posters son who has leukemia to “toughen up and rub some dirt on it”

It isn’t funny or witty, it’s evil and has no place here

I would use caution when it comes to any medications for autistic patients. There really isn't any one size fits all solution and some things may also end up working too well or too poorly considering how those with ASD can have drastic sensibilities to things hard for normal people to understand.

My son is a bit autistic and is epileptic. He's had over a two dozen seizures that we know off. Wish no parent ever had to hold their child during a seizure. Waiting for them to breath again while their face turns purple. My son had one last year during his shower. Fell out of the shower and split his head open on the cabinets. He didnt even know he had blood all over himself.

His anti seizure meds can make him bipolar. It's a side effect. He has to take 6 huge pills every morning.

He becomes a violent sociopath during episodes.

I know what you're talking about. Wish you and your child the best.

Yes, there are several medications out there. It is a trial and error process. Different meds work better for different people.

The meds my son was first on caused massive weight loss and gave him bad ticks (uncontrollable arm movements and ticks in his face).

I'm not sure if my boy would do good in this or not. He wears his emotions on his sleeve. He should be playing football. almost seven years old and a little over 100 pounds. he is a little tank. lol
