As a life time lab professional I can say the lab tests cannot be better than the specimen collected. Give me a properly collected and handled specimen and I will give you the results per the accuracy and precision of the instrument it is performed on.

I’ve actually asked the same question a few times working in the hospital while I’m doing my PT eval (while wearing a paper mask or nothing) on patients who have tested as negative and are still hacking up a lung fwiw

Well, they are certainly better than the first tests the CDC rolled out.

They aren’t very accurate. Nasal swabs as are poor as 63-75% sensitive.

I've heard that if you don't feel like your brain was biopsied, they didn't do it right.

Well looks like my concerns were warranted.

Covid 19 year May miss as many as 1/3 of positive people

Reading this thread and seeing how so many people have no symptoms makes me realize that there was no way to nip this in the bud via testing. It is now getting away from Singapore too. The Chinese had the only chance and when they blew it this thing was destined to sweep the world.

China’s sensitivity was 63%

They think the tests we are using in Minnesota have a sensitivity between 60 and 70%. That means the false negative is between 30 and 40% in Minnesota.

I don’t know about Louisiana though

Why did they buy them from China?

When I read reports on lower sensitivity of US test it's usually people using Chinese data and included their own beliefs that people testing negative had to have had it. There is not a lot of objective proof included for US tests (admittedly it would have been tested more if not spreading so fast). The doctor of the healthcare worker from NO who died was so certain they had original negative's sample rested and then sent of another sample to a university and both came back negative making it 3 negative results across 2 labs. I still think doctor didn't believe it.

Right now many in US are testing most likely to have it and moderately symptomatic or preexisting risks. NJ keeps coming up with over 50% positive rates over past 5 days. NY is high, California is high but they also don't always include updates to negative results or test result totals. Michigan is high for same reason (haven't updated negative or test numbers for 6 days), and something with Oklahoma like they are very restrictive with their testing. I was just looking at these recently.

MN's rate is fairly low, but it seems consistent in daily results and with a good amount of tests done per capita.

Btw the cdc referred to a lot of the current test that were rushed out as “complete garbage” on a Covid-19 conference call today. So be careful
