But again, no fever as you stated earlier, what was your emergency?

And also again, what did you want then? The doctor is obviously going to request a scan because a lot can change in 2 months, and based on your responses and hostility in this thread, you sound like you'd be the first person to sue said doctor if you would have developed a more serious issue.

The over arching question is still what did you want done or expect to have happen when you went? Was this just a trip down to get some pain pills?

Thank you for subsidizing deadbeats that pay nothing

16.7% of potential "deadbeats" makes prices 20 fold? If 83.3% have insurance(higher % if you include all the elderly on medicare)....then how does the small % of "deadbeats" raise the price soo much?

The only reason is lobbying and circumventing anti-trust laws

Since we are having twins, the doc wants to do an ultrasound every four weeks to monitor growth. These Ultrasounds normally take about 15 minutes and are done by an ultrasound technician, NOT the doctor. Only consumable is a little bit of the lube on the belly.

EIGHT HUNDRED frickING DOLLARS EACH TIME.

They charge $800 per ultrasound ($400 for a singleton, double since we have twins).

It seems they are wiling to take 10-20% of that as payment from insurance companies. I had a simple surgical procedure that they billed at 52K. They accepted a total of $5800.

When you read your 2nd statement, they're not nearly as BS as it seems.

Actually, insurance is one of the biggest reasons why routine medical stuff costs so much money. they charge what they can because consumers are disconnected from directly paying for it.

The tech does it, but the doctor still has to review the test or a radiologist has to look at it. Have you sat through an anatomy scan, where they point out the different parts? I don't know about you, but I thought everything looked the same. Some physician reviews every single thing and has to report on the the ultrasound.

Don't go if you don't care about your kids.
My wife is pregnant with our first and we have had to have multiple ultrasounds, because there was an abnormality and our baby is on the small side. The abnormality is almost always insignificant, but under medical guidelines needs to be reported and followed. Either way, we look at it as a bonus that we get to have multiple ultrasounds to see our baby. We feel lucky our baby gets multiple checkups.

And next month you'll get another random bill for $320

Then a couple months later another random bill for $140

It's a terribly bloated and confusing system for consumers who have insurance and just want to do the right thing
fricking this!

My last sinus surgery, I got bills for 6 months from every motherfricker at the hospital. fricking ridiculous.

That's it. They go to ERIC for an ingrown toenail. Or they got in some gang shite and got knifed or shot.
ER has to take them.

That, and the fact that ~50% of people don't pay a penny for their healthcare, or for health insurance. Those that have insurance or pay out of pocket subsidize the other half of the population (i.e., deadbeats and people whose new car or TV is more important than health insurance).

The GE Voluson E8 Expert BT06 Ultrasound Machine starts at about $115,000, additional options can up that by 50%, maintenance will be $15K per year, and the life span of the equipment due to technical advances is pretty short.

"The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a median income of $65,210 for ultrasound technicians, or sonographers, in its May 2011 Occupational Employment Statistics. Sonographers at the 25th percentile earned up to $53,830 per year, while those at the 75th percentile reported earnings of $76,060 and higher"
