Non complicated diverticulitis. No fever either.

Have a history but ER doc just felt a CT was a good idea......had a colonoscopy 2 months prior that verified diverticular disease.

You should have followed up with your GI doc. You don't sound like you needed the ER.

What was your EMERGENCY that brought you to the ER?

Somebody's gotta pay for all the folks who use the ED as their primary care physician with no insurance and never pay, for the remainder who have Medicaid that we pay for, and for even the ones who have commercial insurance where the carrier contractually pays about 35% of the actual charges.

Yeah what an idiot!!!

Nothing could have possibly changed in the last 2 months since your last study. No way you could have possibly developed an abscess.

Next time you need to make sure you ask for a NP

Don't pay it. I know some folks who don't pay their medical bills and they're all living fat, dumb and happy. The government even pays them monthly for their hardships.

I took a medivac flight to Seattle. 2.5 hours, $110,000.

Holy cow. Did insurance cover most of it or are you still paying $100 a month for the rest of your life?

Drum role.......$10,000!

Those totals are BS. It seems they are wiling to take 10-20% of that as payment from insurance companies. I had a simple surgical procedure that they billed at 52K. They accepted a total of $5800.

Damn Roger. I came in here to gripe about my sons $1,300 ambulance ride of less than a quarter of a mile after a sports injury, when I could have brought him myself. They barely got fluids started and they were already at the ER,

I prefer my bill to yours.

At Ole Miss the on-campus clinic, it was free to be seen by a doctor, and only got charged if they had to run lab tests. Every single person who walked in there, from sick to headache to a sprained wrist, they would refuse to see you unless you consented to having your blood drawn, so they could charge you.

Not sure. I just got the bill and haven't heard from Insurance.

Top that off with a week in Seattle in the ER, and I imagine that bill is pushing 300k right now.

Sad thing about it, Airlift Northwest is a part of the University of Washington and offers insurance that's rather cheap at roughly $100 bucks a year. I've pondered it but never pulled the trigger.

Now...

And...to top it off, the diagnosis was wrong and the trip was kind of not necessary, but they did diagnose CLL which is a form of Leukemia.

Actually you can thank the POS's that don't pay their bills when they go to the ER for a broken finger nail or when they have a mild cough.

What really happened was the DR felt like you were a sucker and got charged you $10,000.

Meh, my mva 15 years ago (anniversary is tomorrow) was close to a million easily. Had to cut me out and air vac me to UK Hospital. Transected aerota with multiple fractures...over 15 surgeries and over year/half of physical therapy. Thank god my deductible was $3000.

Well...damn bro. I hope insurance covers it all for you and that you have a quick recovery if you haven't already.

There are a ton of reasons why medical care is expensive, and this is definitely one of them

People don't price shot. Most couldn't tell you the actual cost of their doctors visit before insurance.

Actually you can thank ED docs (who actually are crooks at academic centers), who are more and more frequently independent contractors and able to bill as out-of-network providers...despite the fact that the local hospital is considered in-network for your particular payer.

As a specialist at an academic center, not much pisses me off quite as much as ED docs tho

And next month you'll get another random bill for $320

Then a couple months later another random bill for $140

Then the next week another for $260

It's a terribly bloated and confusing system for consumers who have insurance and just want to do the right thing

Well, it was a pointless endeavor in my experience. None of them could tell you and were all confused at the question to begin with.
