That fricking 3.5. Had an extra vehicle, MKX, for kids and to carry extra stuff.....absokute shitsgow to work on.
Basically, if you do have an issue, it's so hard to get to, you really should change everything under timing cover, just to save your arse kater.

Reminds me of the timing belt changes on my Ferraris.

Eurotrash is the absolute worst of all vehicles to work on.

Changing a water pump on almost every vehicle is a shitshow.
It was a 15-minute job on my Suburban, that includes refilling the radiator.

Yukon headlamp and driving light bulb replacements done in less than 5 mins with no tools. Rotate and pull two L shaped rods, remove headlamp unit, replace plug in bulb. Next, grab and pinch a tab for the driving light unit, replace bulb. Pop both units back into the frame.
This may be one of the few times I thanked a car designer/engineer for making something so simple.
Yeah, this is what people who don't hate their customers do.
BMW is convinced their drivers have no idea how a car even operates.

Plenty of cars have issues like this. Hell, to replace a rear main seal ($10 gasket), you have to remove the entire transmission in some cars.

My mechanic will not work on an Audi! He can, but would rather not.

So what brand makes cars with the easiest maintenance?

Most mechanics will tell you Toyota and Honda, parts availability are a plus also.

Restored a 300zx once. Damn alternator was on bottom of engine with two retaining bolts on backside with very little space. 2 1/2 hour job.
I had the same car. You have to pull the radiator and hoses. Best way to do that job. The retaining nuts in the rear is still a bit of a bear, but it opens up the front to work with the head of the bolts,

For a rear main seal? That would be alll automobiles. Not some.

My mechanic told my if I ever buy a Volkswagen, you can forget about me working on it if need be.
My wife had one. The mechanic told me that basically, the German view on tolerances is basically zero.
Those assholes made the timing chain cover out of plastic. They eventually warp and pour oil all over the place.

The water pump on a 3.5 or 3.7 is bullshite. Fu ford.

Try the coolant plumbing on the v6. It’s plastic with a plastic tube that slides into the back of the water pump housing. Only thing between heavily sloshing, pressurized, coolant and freedom is a rubber o ring in a plastic groove.
I replaced it because it was dripping on a Jetta vR6 that I had, dripped with the old.. started right away dripping with the new.
That bitch was still dripping the day I talked some poor slob into buying that damn thing.

GM did the same foolish thing with the popular SBC ZZ4 crate motor. And yes, they cracked and leaked. Fortunately, the old stamped steel cover that worked fine for decades had the same bolt pattern and would mount up just fine with no more leaks.

I remember seeing under the hood of my stepdad’s 1976 Ford F-100 short wheel base, when I was a teenager in the 1990s …. Man they should have kept vehicles that simple smh

We didn't do that . We jacked it up and went underneath. Didn't have to remove much to get to it. Those two bolts were very time consuming as there was only a few inches of space to work in.
