Chemo can be called into other hospital's. Happens all the time.
That being said, this is heartbreaking to put this additional stress on cancer patients. I am in the field and my first fear was any broken lines to treatment.

My understanding isn't that they cut off patients from out of state but they are requiring 14 day quarantine in Houston before visiting, which effectively is the same thing
Basically. We went to the children's center over at Memorial Hermann last week and the doctor told us this was probably coming.

I was at MD Anderson last Thursday and Friday, March 26-27th for my 3-month appts for scans bloodwork, see the oncologist, etc. They must have been contemplating doing this for a while because they made me get a copy of my CT scan so that If I was unable to come back in three months due to "the craziness of the COVID 19 outbreak." My Doc told me that if I had the actual scan then my local docs (Thibodaux, LA) would have the latest scans to compare with.
It is true that no visitors are allowed inside any of the buildings except for cases where the patient cannot give consent for treatment or if the patient has to have a caregiver with them at all times. The treating doctors have to provide an order for the caregiver. It was really surreal to walk in the hospital and there were very few people inside. I guess I never realized that so many of the people that I always see were not patients.
Edit to add following link
this is the link to MD Anderson's restrictions due to COVID 19.

Texas continues to show its true stripes by demonizing the population of an entire State.

You would think they would coordinate for local treatment. I'm no doctor, but I would expect a missed treatment to have an adverse impact on someone's recovery.

Thanks, Dire Wolf, I need all the well wishes I can get right now I am hospitalized at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center due to vomiting blood. This is a nice little gift of Esophgeal and gastric varices due to the two liver resections I had a couple of years ago. I am feeling much better today since I had to have 3 pints of blood transfused last night. If I do ok today and tonight they will release me. Doc told me that if it was a normal time they would do a gastroscope to find the bleed and either band it or cauterize the bleeding varices. He followed that up by saying that a gastroscope would cause me to have a higher risk of catching the virus which would most probably mean that it will kill me. They have tight restrictions here on visitors etc. They wouldn't even let my wife in last night to bring me so clothes, toiletries, etc. They say one visitor per patient per 24 hours but when she tried last night they would not let her in. It sucks but I do understand the need.

Making Louisiana......history

Yeap. Family friend was just told that she will be transferred out of MD Anderson care into local hospitals for Chemo and other treatments for the indefinite future. Her blood samples are to be drawn and sent to MD Anderson and they will send notes to the doctor locally for care.

Why dont they test these patients for covid now? Then I think they could make a decision on moving forward with the treatments...

are cancelled for April for all Louisiana patients
For all out of state patients, not just La. And new patients must be from the Houston area.
Outpatient services are being converted to inpatient coverage, and the hospitalists that used to cover the inpatient services are preparing for Covid.

Unless it was a prank phone call/April fool's
Can't see the oncologists from MD Anderson pranking their patients on April 1st let alone during a full blown pandemic.

Well, honestly, if you live in South LA especially, you are in just as good of care at Mary Bird Perkins. I never blame anyone that goes to MDA for another opinion, but after everything is planned out for your course of treatment, and you live in South LA, you should be at Mary Bird Perkins. MBP can do virtually anything MDA does, except treat with protons. I won't get too deep in to it, but I know all this first hand. I didn't obtain this info from a friend of a friend. LOL

Now is a good time to remind people to still give blood if they can.

So MD Anderson can deny treatment to a cancer patient (who may very well die), but we can't restart the economy cause someone MIGHT get sick?

MD Anderson denies for many reasons.

Yep.
And mdacc didn't just kick out active chemo patients without any guidance. The mid level providers and nurses that coordinate the chemo are coordinating the hand off to more local providers. Treatment will continue, just locally, or as local as possible.
