Yeah I'm with you, but I'm ok with just a small purple and gold

As a kid, I remember riding on Mardi Gras day in a truck parade, and seeing two ladders with a box built across where three boys were sitting. Archie Manning was on top of one ladder, Olivia on the other, their three boys were in the box.

This whole thing is funny and sad.

I've been going to the parades on St Charles near Napoleon since I was in college. I'm 48 now with 3 kids.

I see ladders, tarps, canopies all over. I've used all of them as well.

All I ever really see is families and friends gathering together and having a good time. No trouble, just thousands of people having a good time.

The idea that any of this is a big problem for others is laughable.

Ladders should be 6 feet from the curb. And no one owns the street or neutral ground.

But if someone is going to be out there at all parades from Wed till Tuesday and they get the spot. I have no issue with it.

Happy Mardi Gras!

What's the thought process behind using at canopy at a parade?

Serious?

For one, it's supposed to rain.

Tarps and tents shouldnt be out there. I can see a tarp if it rained but canopies are lame as hell

Just spit balling here, but probably for shade and/or protection from the rain.

We’ve always put one up and left it up Sunday during the day when it’s not terribly crowded and then take it down Sunday night so as to not take up unnecessary space. But, we put it up on the back of the neutral ground and it has never caused an issue.

Same as the thought process while tailgating, or camping or whatever.

Some days you are out there for 12 hours+.

Shade, a place to sit and eat. Any number of reasons.

Bring an umbrella or a rain jacket.

What about on days it doesn't rain? You're blocking anyone from being able to enjoy the parade behind you.

Oh bullshite. Why? Because you say so.

And a canopy, or a ladder or a tarp isn't blocking anyone's view of the parade. Go stand across the street where there are no canopies.

You sound more entitled that the land grabbers.

Tents on the back half of the neutral ground are perfectly fine, but recently folks have started setting them up right by the curb. It’s a pretty inconsiderate obstruction.

There's no purpose of a canopy at a parade

Yes it does. You can't even catch anything under a canopy or even get a full view of the parade. You also block people behind you and on both sides from viewing the parade.

Your statement below is entitlement

Righ, which I why I said we take it down for the Sunday night parade. It’s never caused an issue during the day parades on Sunday because it’s set up on the back of the neutral ground not blocking anyone’s view.

No it isn't.
Everyone has an equal opportunity to get space at the parade.

If someone arrived at the place you wanted to watch the parade before you showed up find somewhere else to watch.

Should they have to move because of your entitlement?

There is plenty of space for everyone who wants to see the parade to see the parade.

This is true for canopy people, ladder people, tarp people, chair sitters, late arrivers, whatever.

I've been doing Mardi Gras as a college student, single guy, dad, in any number of roles and this has always been true.

Don't be pissed because someone got to your favorite corner before you did.

Everyone has the same opportunity.
