In a single-elimination tournament where all competitors have to win the same number of matches to win the tournament (no byes or play-in matches), the total number of matches is always = #competitors minus 1.

I got to 1,073,741,824 competitors in round 30 and stopped. 26 rounds to go. There would be many more competitors than there are humans on earth.

That’s what is crazy about Dux claim....it seems to fight 56 matches in a single tournament in a couple days would be mathematically impossible.
