Feel like there haven't been any actual "updates" at all recently. Kind of amazing how there is no fricking information coming out, and it pisses me off. You are leaving people in limbo with no knowledge of why this guy did this and that's absolute bullshite, that causes terror more so than if they were to tell us his motives.

Almost every deputy at my agency carries a long gun in their car. Absolutely no way would any LEO try to lay down suppression fire, the liability for that is both civil and criminal. You end up hitting a civilian then you lose your job, get sued, and face criminal charges.

I have a question for anyone LEO or anyone with knowledge: How common is it for regular patrol units to have a long rifle on board? I’m probably talking out of my arse but since the event I’ve wondered why there didn’t seem to be an attempt to put up at least some suppression fire from the ground. I’m not talking about sniper stuff to kill him, just some return rounds to make things harder for him. I know that would be risky to other people in the hotel but one would think that is an all bets off situation.

They have pistols, and are shooting up to the 32nd floor. That's what... a 300+ foot shot upwards into the air at best. In the military we train at 25 yards in a straight line and that sometimes goes poorly. (Don't shoot handguns as often as Police mind you, but still)

That would have been the dumbest thing a police officer could have done honestly.

I'm sure this has been discussed in here, but I have been away pretty much all day so I'm sorry if this has been posted, but have we heard anything about how the questioning with the GF went?

edit: nevermind, I see where there have been no updates

Feeding us crumbs of information to help kill momentum and prevent figuring out the real details and facts. I mean they've waited so long to bring us a detailed story that at this point i don't care what they say, I'm just sympathetic to the victims.

Absolutely, I felt like this story is really dying and go to the wayside, but that's clearly not true there is still continual coverage, but there's no information or substance to it and thus it's slipping by, which is so odd.

it's been less than 72 hours and you've already lost interest in finding out the motive?

We have rifles in a M4 frame and yes it would be risky... It’s hard for me to say if returning fire would be the best idea or not . It would have to depend on position and knowing exactly the suspects location, not just hoping or guessing your retuning fire into the right room or not . Your not taking that shot with a pistol , with a rifle and the right position I could see it .. This is just a broad statement and not necessarily to this situation , just because I wasn’t there and do not know all of the circumstances.

I tend to agree with this, unless they have targeted people that might be directly linked. I don't know what his motive was but I don't believe for one second he didn't have one. Maybe I'm being naive but I don't think I am.

My post was carefully worded. I even mentioned the risk to other hotel patrons which I’m assuming was nil after the firing had been going on for a little bit and mentioned an all bets are off situation. I wasn’t talking about free fire shooting up the hotel. I was talking about LEO grabbing their AR or something similar and putting down a couple of rounds here and there once they knew his position to suppress the guy.

It’s not an insane concept in that situation.

I'm less interested in finding out than I was the day after. What's the point in hiding the motive from us if the LVPD are hinting they have one? My focus has turned towards the victims.

Is anyone else's FB feed loaded with tinfoil? I logged on for the first time today and I got a bit overwhelmed.

I feel no more terrified.

Maybe this is more of a you problem than a problem with police.

There wouldn't be a lot of this tin foil if we were provided with more info sooner. What do you expect? People are going to come up with their own theories in the meantime.

I'm honestly not sure, but I would think because releasing it could hinder the investigation. Maybe there really is no motive other than the guy was a psychopathic shithead. I could see that being possible. I wasn't trying to be a dick with my reply.

that's fair. I'm no Anderson Cooper fan, and I rarely agree with his political positions, but I saw someone mention on the Poli board they appreciate his coverage of the victim's stories. I have to agree with them. He really does a great job of focusing on their experience in these situations

It hits you hard. I mean most of us go to concerts, sporting events, festivals, anywhere with a large gathering of folks. It could've been any of us and there wouldn't have been anything we could do about it.

This shooter is the most inexplicable shooter in the history of mass shootings and he happened to pull off the biggest mass shooting in history. He also has ties to heavy hitters in the defense industry.

This is the mother of all conspiratorial playgrounds if his motive isn’t nailed down.
