re: Mass emails sent by employees in error

The dumbasses at mine don't do it in error. The dean will send out a college wide announcement about somebody getting hired and you can brace yourself for the 50 incoming replies of "Great!," "Congratulations, Bob!," "Welcome to the job!" Then you get the ones who send one out announcing that their little bastard is selling hams to raise money for the Jared Fogel Footlong of Fun Fund and another 50 dipshits will respond with "Good for him! I'll take one," "Count me in!"

It's like Facebook hell, except you can't get out of it.

I used to add all the idiots who did it to the ignore list, but then got in trouble because one of them kept trying to email me about something work related and wondered why I never got her emails.

I like the ones who respond telling everyone to not reply all, and to remove them from the distribution list.

Sounds like the AUSA confirmed your opinion by not speaking up as soon as he heard your boss on the line

In 1998 I was working for the government and a mass email was sent to the entire agency replied several times. The director (4* General) sent out a mass email telling everyone to stop replying to all. I being the smart-arse replied to all saying something like "Replying to all telling everyone to stop replying to all is just as bad as replying to all". This went out to 20k plus employees and contractors. My in box was overloaded for 3 weeks with emails from people out of the office telling me they were out of the office and when they would be back. I got several calls asking if I sent the reply to the director, I got so pissed I blew up. And instead of getting any punishment the IT guys apologized to me and I got the rest of the day off to relax and cool off. (Probably lucky I was a vital part of a vital op and needed) LOL. I never made that mistake again.
