— A Maryland law banning restaurants, schools and other food servers from using foam containers takes effect next week. The Baltimore Sun reports Maryland will become the first state in the nation to ban polystyrene food containers when the law goes into effect on Thursday. The law’s advocates say replacing containers made with fossil fuels with ones made from more sustainable materials will help reduce pollution and other harmful environmental impacts.

California is going to be mad that they didn’t think of this first And will now have to play catch up.

We need to increase styrofoam production tenfold to make up for it. Also, be sure to throw your styrofoam cups and containers out the window to stick it to the man.

Maryland has been that way all my adult life. It’s very totalitarian.

Until your takeout leaks through the cardboard container onto your car seat.

Styrofoam is pretty awesome for some things like smoothies and drinks. I know Smoothie King stopped using Styrofoam cups for a few months and added them back. It keeps food hot too.

It takes 500 years for styrofoam to decompose.

That's a good product in my book. shite is built to last.

Styrofoam, with a bit of chemical manipulation, makes a great fire starter for burning cut brush in clearing fence lines.

It will probably be replaced with something inferior

The Smoothie King cups are supposedly a more biodegradable Styrofoam and not noticeably any worse though.

Amazing the things people on here get worked up over. I think it's a good idea, hopefully other states join suit soon.
