Federal authorities have released new images of a pair of murder suspects who overpowered security guards and escaped from a prison transport van last week.
The photos were taken at San Juan County Jail where Blane Barksdale, 56, and his wife Susan Barksdale, 59, were housed the night before they escaped last Monday, U.S. Marshals said Saturday.
"These updated photos of Blane and Susan Barksdale were taken shortly before overpowering the transport team outside of Blanding, Utah," U.S. Marshal David Gonzales said in a release Saturday. "We are asking anyone who knows of their whereabouts or sees them to call the U.S. Marshals Service or 9-1-1 immediately."
The couple was being extradited from New York to Pima County, Arizona, when they allegedly rushed two unarmed security guards in Utah, tied them up and took control of the transport van, U.S. Marshals said.
Gonzales told The Associated Press that Susan Barksdale complained of an "intestinal issue" before she and her husband charged the guards. The Barksdales used shoelaces to tie up the guards and placed them in the back of the van with an unidentified third inmate, Gonzales said.
The Barksdales then allegedly drove the van to northeast Arizona, where they abandoned it, with the guards still "tied up in the van," according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Yeah, but I'm still foggy on how a 56 year old dude and his 59 year old wife overpowered a prison detail.
They were being transported from NY south to Arizona, took control of the truck, drove north to N. Arizona and dumped the truck with guards (and one other prisoner who I guess said "nah) still in it.
I bet they headed back south, thinking the brief northern trip would fool the police into believing they kept going north.
And it's been a week, so they're probably in Mexico by now.

I hope so. We keep sending our murderers and our rapists, and Mexico will get tired of it and build a wall.

Just what the hell did the guards look like if these two senior citizens overpowered them. Those two look like they've been rode hard and put away wet most of their lives.

It wasn’t police or a “prison detail” ... It was a private escort company whose main prior escorting experience was foster kids to and from doctor appts, etc. The jurisdiction acquiring them wanted to save money so they used them as they were cheaper driving across country.

Still, you have to think it was more than just 2 chicks from a church group or something.

Just how the hell would this even work? I mean driving from NY to AZ is more than a day trip.
They stop at Fed prisons along the way to overnight?

Somewhere in Arizona a prosecutor/district attorney is getting his arse chewed for not sending armed officers to NY to have the perps flown back.
Coincidentally, somewhere in Arizona two Detectives are glad they didn’t get that assignment. Extraditions are a long, boring, cost of doing business.
