If you own a 100k(which is damn near impossible to find to start) house the monthly payement in total will be around $850-$1000 a month. That is half of your take home pay

Plus we're not even factoring in where the downpayment is coming from. Add that to the list of things you need to have going into the scenario.

I currently spend less than $100/month on gas because I live 3 miles from work and ride my bike a lot the time...is that not allowed?

I bet your house cost more than $60k.

Salmon is now arguing that in an extreme specific case it is possible. Well of course. But it is EXTREMELY unlikely

Yes. Those people arent living like a king or doing whatever they want I and lnch already said 35k is a livable wage. But it will not allow much freedom in life

Well, then you got to factor the payment on that loan into your already stretched budget.

The thing about that scenario is what happens when shite breaks?

Appliances, plumbing work, etc can cost a lot of money. Let alone all the other costs that go into owning instead of renting

it could allow plenty

the argument turns completely subjective at this point

Mathematically it can't, unless you have a very strange definition of "plenty of freedom."

You are being obtuse now. The argument lnch was responding to were people talking about still being able to go on vacations when they wanted and trips etc etc.

Salmon's argument is if you wanna live in podunk louisiana then 35k is doable. He has listed points to prove that to be relevantly true. However, how many of you truly want to live in podunk Louisiana, since youre main source of poon tang would be the farmers daughter. You are single of course.
