So why do you keep insisting that this is the standard for the discussion? Are you retarded or just a trolling cocksucker?

You, most assuredly, could own a home on $35k by yourself
My nanny's note on her house is like $400/month
She just lives in a rural community
When'd she buy it? What is it's value now? Could she buy it for that cheap today?
I don't give a shite about what you could do decades ago. We're talking about today.

We're currently living off of one small non-profit salary, own our home, continue to pay my student loans and have a baby.
We've had to make major cuts in our expenses and eat 95% of our meals at home. It's definitely doable. We're very happy and find things to do that are free for us to enjoy. We have health insurance through my job. Can't complain about anything.

because other people brought it up and it's more possible than the Op's scenario of having a house by yourself and saving.

You sure are angry.

I'm assuming that insurance and tax is factored in. We're not counting $60k houses in this discussion.

This thread is all over the place. The back and forth is funny
This for instance is really vague and doesn't prove much.
Lsu games can be really cheap. Most games I can't give away tickets so tickets can be super cheap. Most people stay at a friend's house or just drive back home, which is cheap.
Music festivals are usually with a group so the hotel is really cheap. Tickets are the only pricey thing unless you're slamming beers the whole time at $6.
Going home to see parents. Well besides transportation, everything should cost pretty much nothing.
This thread is full of making points on both sides and leaving out very important details

I went to 2-3 LSU games a year , a couple of music festivals a year, trips back home to visit the parents, etc.
Also took random Road trips to Austin, Florida, Chicago.

Does OP live in bumfrick?
So now this thread has become I could totally do it if I got to keep all the stuff for my hobbies I already bought, lived out in bumfrick, and had no emergencies come up.

So we are looking at 1,964 take home a month assuming you are saving for retirement.
$750 a month in rent(that is on the cheap end)
$200 a month car note(vrey cheap)
$100 cable/internet
$75 cell phone
$100 utilities
$75 car insurance
$250 groceries
$100 a month gas
these are low end estimates BTW, most likely you will be spending more
So before spending a dime on any entertainment or eating out, you are left with only $314 a month. Yes, it is a plenty livable wage. But you arent coming close do "doing whatever you want" or "living like a king."
Unless whatever you want means nothing or you are the king of Sudan

no clue
you just said that no one could own a home and save on that salary
I just said that plenty of people can and do, they just don't live in cities
are we now putting certain stipulations on this debate? do we have to live in cities?

Don't bother. Apparently the OT is full of ballers AND people that can ball on no money.

Very few ever do this. Most people, whether they make 150k or 50k are in the same damn rat race.

You still won't be saving much of anything on that salary with that note. Not to mention that you'll be spending way more in gas to drive to your job. But let me guess, the job will also be in bumfrick?

If you own a 100k(which is damn near impossible to find to start) house the monthly payement in total will be around $850-$1000 a month. That is half of your take home pay

$100/month is better than nothing...or maybe they are really frugal and can save more

in this case it isn't, but sometimes it is
is that not allowed either?
I currently spend less than $100/month on gas because I live 3 miles from work and ride my bike a lot the time...is that not allowed?
