quote:

People who are married and earning less than $60,000 per year in total household income have fewer symptoms of depression than comparable earning unmarried people, but for couples earning more, marriage doesn’t show the same mental health benefits, according to a study co-authored by a Georgia State University researcher.

According to this study, people who have never been married and earn more than $60,000 a year have fewer symptoms of depression than comparable earning married people

quote:

“Also, it’s interesting to note, at the highest levels of income, the never married fare better in terms of depression than the married. They have fewer symptoms of depression than married people. All of these are subclinical levels of depression, meaning the disease is not severe enough to be clinically referred to as depression, but can nevertheless impact your health and happiness.”

Discuss.

So, if quit my job and start working at McDonald’s, then I will be happier?

So having a wife makes you happy, but not as happy as having money.

My guess is that the economic benefit of marriage is felt less strongly by high earners than they are for everyone else since they wouldn’t have many financial stresses living as singles.

I will say though, if ones sole objective in marrying someone is a financial one, they’re probably better off staying single.

So the wife is happy with a 50-60k/year income. Makes sense. She’s probably a “salt of the earth” type who is not a gold digger. Selection bias. The single guy making 70k a year plus is happy as well.

Bc weak minded people are less often successful. That doesn’t mean all married or poor are weak minded but it is what it is

Young dual income couples with no kids usually have a lot of fun assuming they have free time outside of work.

Makes sense to me. No wife and no kids means I have more money.

At least dumb people tend to be happier? If I had to choose between dumb & attractive vs smart & average looking, I’d probably pick dumb. Ignorance is bliss, and all.

I think smart people are prone to being less happy, even when they’re beautiful. We overthink everything.
