Why not shoot out the tires to incapacitate the truck first? Then go from there?
"Shooting out the tires" does not incapitate a truck.
A truck can travel a long distance after shooting the tires.

Why aren't they releasing what the warrants are for? I'm wondering if the warrants were for unpaid parking tickets or something equally trivial.

And because unlike hollywood, its extremely difficult and would have likely caused a couple rounds to go unaccounted for or into some neighborhood. Shooting under stressful situations is totally different than shooting for fun.

The rounds they fired wound up in a 6 year olds brain

This story is blowing up on national news, DC and New York

It remains unclear who shot the boy. “I can’t confirm whether the shots came from the officers’ guns or the driver or a passer-by,” says Louisiana State Trooper Scott Moreau.
I'm sure it was the Dad who murdered his own kid or an unseen passer-by randomly unloading on the car.

Federal guidelines recommend police avoid shooting into moving vehicles because innocent people can be killed and it’s ineffective at stopping cars.

Well, you can't match bullets fired from a Glock.
So if you have multiple people firing Glocks...it is causes alot of problems.

Lunchbox and his buddies know more than those Federal guidelines.

It's akin to a suspect shooting at the cops and running into their home - I would hope the cops would not continue to fire into the house without fully assessing the situation.
No, it's not. Once the suspect entered the home the cops would have no reason to fear their life was in danger. A man in a vehicle who tried to run them over once and was still driving the vehicle was still very much a threat. He could have possibly tried to run them over once they were outside their own vehicle. Just because the cops had "sidestepped" the vehicle does not mean their lives were not still in danger.

We should all be honored to have heard Lunchbox's opinion on this matter. Show some respect.

This and I'm glad to hear you finally admit it. The cops do a difficult job and if firing indiscriminately into a car helps them to cope who are we to argue?

Yeah. Though that outs me as a villain here. I've never been a local or state cop but I'm willing to bet it's a pretty thankless job.

Did they go over federal guidelines about shooting into moving vehicles?

Sure it's not recommended or ideal. But in a deadly force incident (if this indeed was one) then it would be authorized. If I'm in a struggle with a suspect that is on top of me and trying to kill me with a knife and the best I can do is grasp for a nearby rock and crack him over the head with it, it's what happens. Regulations and recommendations don't advise me to go around bashing skulls in with rocks but in a deadly force situation recommendations go out the window.
