Detroit and New Orleans couldn’t be more different. Why even try to compare the two.
They are pretty similar. Some large differences, but they aren't completely opposite.

There’s more bigger differences than there are similarities
It’s a weird comparison

Not with Latoya around. She’ll nip that in the bud real quick.

the port
I honestly recall meeting 1 person who worked at the port, in 8 years living in N.O.
People work in hospitality, along with Education and healthcare like everywhere else.
All the large petrochemical and chemical companies are mostly outside N.O. metro.
I wish NOLA the best.
I love the city.
But, it's in for a disproportionately rough time.

NEW ORLEANS – Financial website SmartAsset reports New Orleans ranks No. 1 for growth in technology jobs in the nation, and No. 5 for women in tech.
quote:
The reports states, “Compared to other big cities across the country, New Orleans appears to be one of the ones with a better environment for female tech workers. Women and men in mathematical and computer occupations earn about the same amount of money. And women fill about 35 percent of those positions.
“The number of tech jobs (math and computer-related positions) in New Orleans grew by about 32 percent between 2012 and 2015. That’s the largest four-year change in tech employment growth in our study. Based on our analysis, the only other city with an equally large increase in tech jobs is Mesa, Arizona.”

Technology jobs
City is a complete dumpster fire. Zero industry. Zero fortune 500 companies.
Residents pushing back against Folger's ITEP application. The one company which has increased staff numbers during covid.

That article was a long time ago. A lot has changed in that time in the tech sector.
GE Capital was the driver behind all of those stats being high. They were more than just employing workers. In April what was left of GE left the city completely so the tech sector is completely shite now.

All of that still in spite of decades of terrible leadership. Imagine how much New Orleans could thrive if there was a competent mayor.

If Jefferson Parish Annexed Downtown and the Port it would be the Greatest City in America
