Decriminalize. Don't legalize.

Legalizing it makes it readily available at every headshop and corner store and gas station across the country. Just decriminalize it and be done with the subject.
It makes it legal in establishments specific to state and local guidelines. For instance, here in WA, it is only available in state licensed stores, subject to local zoning and advertising regulations. What's wrong with that?

If anything I would eliminate even more red tape.

Not only that - car insurance rates will go up (which Louisiana doesn’t need) and high school drop outs will increase - info out of the northwest already shows this

We will need rehab facilities for the addicts and the mentally ill - research shows that if young adults smoke/use marijuana it can mess with their mental health

Research also shows pot users have a higher chance of having autistic children

Just decriminalize drugs at the federal level and let states and local municipalities decide what to do with it. Clear everyone's record with non violent/non property crime related drug offenses.

Agreed. It never should have been a federal government issue to begin with.

Federal government controls points of entry, how do you get around that?

it will then be taxed thereby benefitting the community as a whole.

Goddamnit. This is the worst reason to legalize. It keeps the black market and dangerous alternatives alive, and prices high which exacerbates secondary crimes like violence and property crime..

"Tax and regulate" makes my blood boil.

Legit question is if Republicans believe in freedom... why do they oppose legalization of marijuana? How does possession of a plant constitute a crim3? Its truly tyranny.. a War on drugs... depriving people of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Its disgusting and un-American.

Mine too. I'm not trying to scheme up ways to sell my freedom back to the government. They take too much of our money already. They don't need more.

Absolutely.

Its been legal for personal use here for a long time but the market wasn't decriminalize. When it was fully legalized, it took a couple of years of bureaucratic wrangling before the stores opened and prices are still through the roof because of "tax and regulate." I suppose some people are happy to trade a lot of control for very little freedom.

If you think we ended up here because of Republicans alone than I don't know what to tell you. Why didn't Obama decriminalize it when Democrats had the white house and both houses?

You don't have money piling up around the house that you want to spend on government leakage?

Because they are bought and paid for by the Big Pharma lobbyist to oppose any measure that may lead to the legalization of cannabis. They would rather you take their poison than to use a natural product that anyone can grow. They stand to lose billions if that happens

Cannabis is far less addictive than opioids, tobacco, and alcohol. Cannabis is also much safer as well. In fact, it is practically impossible to die of an overdose of cannabis. In states where cannabis is legal Opioid overdose deaths have dropped from 20% to 35%.

Wrong

Heart attack deaths increase considerably after consuming cannabis

Thete is an overlap. The difference is ideology. Progs believe taxation should be punstive, libs believe it boosts low imcome people.

Progressives love to punish by heavy taxation. Hell, Bernies chief economist was an MMT believer and Bernie still wanted to punish the rich.
