Not in about half the states or more, not in the vast majority of the world.

I use to be strongly against weed. I saw the best minds in my high school become lazy as they only looked for new ways to make bongs or they pushed on to harder stuff. Kind of felt the same about alcohol.
Then my uncle with MS started doing weed. 50some odd years of constantly shaking ended. I now fully endorse it for medical purposes.
I now view it as a vice like any other (alcohol, tobacco and greasy cheeseburgers). If you're old enough to die for your country, you're old enough to have a vice while understanding it's not good for you. Keep it off the roads and in places where doesn't affect others who are not partaking.

Literally everyone arguing with you in this thread has acknowledged that it is harmful, so far there is literally no one arguing otherwise

Hell no it is not. It is a Schedule I narcotic at the Federal level, along with meth and heroin. That is a huge difference than being legal.

Context
Water isn't completely harmless

Literally no.

I guess the proper question is, Is marijuana harmful on the scale of tobacco cigarettes and alcohol? If it falls into that range, where chronic use can kill you, then it should be restricted like cigarettes and alcohol. For it to be banned for health reasons, it has to be worse.

There’s not one person in this thread arguing that, and dozens are arguing for its legalization

Any study can say what it wants.

Probably true, but that's not the issue. Should be legal. Let the adults decide what they want to do to their body. Can't be worse than the crap food they sell us that we eat daily.
The issue I have, and this is more of a political theory issue than anything, is that the libertarian mindset here clashes with the political activity/makeup of our country.
Yes, adults should have the right to make any and all decisions regarding their lives without external force, so long as their decisions do not infringe on others.
The problem we have is that, the way we currently function as a society, society itself, meaning all of us, has to carry the burden of poor decisions.
Once I no longer have to support the poor decision making of other individuals through taxation and governmental programs, I will fully agree with the idea that adults can make any and all decisions unimpeded.
Until then, frick that. If society is paying for an individuals medical care, disability, living expenses, etc., society should have a say in what you can and cannot do.
This is a pretty big tangent, so may be a topic for another thread.

It’s banned because in the early part of the 20th century it was associated with Blacks and Hispanics, was seen as a threat to the alcohol and tabacco industries.

It's only safer than alcohol, and 50% of the food we eat in this country. But definitely deserves a schedule 1 distinction. Just like Democrat propaganda exists, Republicans do the same.

Exactly, I’m fricking sick of paying for knee and hip surgeries for former athletes. Their damaging activities should be illegal. Jogging destroys joints and we all pay the price.

More than that, they argue it’s a miracle drug that’ll cure anything and, if legalized, its tax revenue would lead to peace and prosperity for all.

Yep. And the funny part is you know all of those republican senators are frequenting the recreational dispensaries while in DC. Nasty people. Rules for thee, not for me.

And I agree. They should have to pay for their surgeries.
Also, that is a really weird example to use.
A more apt choice would be obesity from poor nutritional intake while on food stamps, with the resulting health problems that society has to pay for.

Can we just start by all agreeing it’s less harmful than Heroin and Meth? Which it’s classified with in federal law. Then we can discuss if it’s less harmful than Cocaine, which federal law says it isn’t. It should be, at worst, a schedule 4 drug ( a step below commonly prescribed opioids).

No difference. If you frick up your knees running or wreck driving a car, you should have to pay your own freight, because you chose to do those things.
