We've had people in our office let us know they're going to a dispensary and ask if anyone wants them to grab any product for them. It's definitely becoming socially acceptable.

Marijuana becoming socially acceptable
quote:

God I hope not.
Marijuana will never fully become socially acceptable until 2 things happen: 1) It's decriminalized across the board and can be sold, farmed, etc., legally, and 2) Stoner types who swear up and down they HAVE to smoke a joint before work, after lunch, on the way home, etc., because it MAKES them work better, harder, faster, etc., come clean about the fallacies of their love affair with pot. Potheads will always be the thorn in Mary Jane's side if we're talking about "social acceptance."

Regarding #1, there's no honest reason as to why pot shouldn't be legal across this country, given the fact that something as toxic and destructive as liquor can be acquired legally. Also, *warning: downvotes ahead* if you're a conservative, libertarian, a proponent of capitalistic society, etc., then you should welcome the pot industry and the dissolution of government control, and if you're a democrat you should welcome it because of the tax revenue and also because democrats like to pretend they're hip and down with shite and that whole little glass house that they've built.

Regarding #2, I've never EVER seen a heavy pot smoker (i.e., smokes multiple times in a work day) make much of himself. These are the same people who make it out like pot cures everything from an itchy arsehole to AIDS, but I regret to inform them that they are cutting weed short for what it is inherently good at: Making you relax. In no shape form or fashion does smoking a bowl make the overwhelming majority of people WANT to crunch numbers and be a beast in the workplace, nor does it make them more able to do that. Smoking a fat joint does not equal a "go getter'ness" attitude. On the flip side I've seen the same type of guy who was a huge pothead & who smoked from the time he was 13 until 30 years old (he'd steal roaches from his dad's ashtray; turns out his dad smoked pot to help beat alcoholism) take over 8 months to piss clean for a job and go through pure HELL for a solid 45 days because of withdrawals finally get his shite together and thrive at life because of his profession. Now he smokes pot with responsible moderation; just like it should be with everything else in life. And FTR he took that long because he pissed clean without trying to cleanse or anything of the sort because he had the time to do it; plus it kind of turned into a science experiment for him, and yes he was overweight so that didn't help and no he didn't exercise per se.

Pot needs potheads until it doesn't, and after that a pothead is a liability to the herb. Once you reach into the realm of being a pothead you've got to call a pothead out for what he is: An addict, at his worst, and an irresponsible person who's gone beyond moderation at his best. Either way both people need to get their shite together because they're only hurting their cause regarding legitimacy and social acceptance of their preferred "vice," and quite frankly I've seen so many potheads who wound up being losers when they had more potential, and so reasoning would suggest that a pothead had better get his shite together anyway because his life is a farce if he does not. A pot addict can have his life fall apart too: Nothing (and no one) is immune to the laws of not sticking to moderation.

And I say this as a guy who has been taking 2 hits of pot every evening for the last 2 weeks to help with the shakes and urges of alcohol. Alcohol is my demon and it always will be. I love a good drink when the time is right, but I go overboard sometimes. Problem is, I don't want to be a slave to alcohol, but I definitely don't want to be a slave to absolute sobriety either: Both are as equally pathetic of a state to be in; as they are the manifestation of a surrender and a loss- especially a loss of self control. The key is to nip your demons in the bud BEFORE you get to the point where there's no turning back (i.e, choose total abstinence or total addiction), and pot has helped me get over the physical hump and will always be a weapon in my arsenal to help me cut my demons off at the knees, and it'll never manifest itself into being a problem regarding overindulgence because pot will never be a problem for me and my body's chemistry like alcohol is. We all have our chains to break, and we all don't have the same kinds of chains tethering us down.

Just like alot of things like, say, alcohol, pot is a great thing to enjoy in moderation while we live out our humdrum days in this hard arse thing we call life, but it's when a man crosses the line into the realm of gluttony, idolism, irresponsibility, selfishness, etc., and leads himself down the path to overindulgence when you see the good things in life become the actual "vices" of mankind.

Tldr potheads (pot addicts) (which I much prefer over alcoholics) and not totally decriminalizing pot is what impedes society's progression towards "accepting" it.

But there will always be people who judge others because those other people sin differently than they themselves do, that is a given and a guarantee. There will always be self-righteous men and women in this world, and with that made clear we can't worry about those folks. Frick them, feed em fish heads for all I care.
