People should only be able to save the space they’re standing on. You standing on a tarp doesn’t mean you suddenly own the space of whatever the tarp touches. Y’all are ridiculous. Fold that shite up and stand on the tiny square. That’s what that tarp should “get you”.

After living in New Orleans for 3 years, I would never do a Mardi Gras in Lafayette or anywhere else again. They don't compare
the funny thing about that is that Lafayette and Houma both put on a much better Mardi Gras than Mobile

I'm guessing you don't see the irony that you went out early to get a spot yourself but you're only bitching because other people got there before you.

I get a spot for MYSELF. Not a spot for a full on Ole Miss size doofus tailgate that takes up a shite more space than needed and makes it a worse experience for everyone else not wanting to turn their Mardi Gras into some weird arms race on the neutral ground.

No space for you kids/wife/boyfriend/whatever? You can literally be anywhere you want if it's just you. But I'm sure it wasn't just that and whatever you feel is teh appropriate amount of space to take is right and everyone else is wrong.

Again, you're just pissy you weren't there in time.

The appropriate amount of space to “take” is whatever you need to comfortably fit yourself where you’re standing. Maybe a chair for your older relative and an ice chest. And guess what happens if people walk into the space you “took”? You just let it go because it’s not your space it’s a public parade. You don’t need a fricking giant tailgate for your family to fit in a reasonable space. Somehow I missed all those giant arse tents in old pictures of Mardi Gras.

How difficult is it to find a place to lock your bike and how close is it normally to the parade route?

Not difficult at all. All it takes is a STOP sign post to secure your lock to and just make sure to remove any slack in the chain/cable so thieves can't maneuver it around the sign at the top.

Also to any post of a chain link fence and make sure to run the chain/cable through the fence itself and around the post.

You can find a sign post or fence right on the parade route.

Why do you need nay space at all if it's just you? Or were you trying to save space for people besides you? You are ducking this question because you know it makes you a hypocrite

Yea, no shite. Only psychos think they own the land.

You really "reasonable" is subjective right? It's pretty funny to me that you don't get it.

I don't need anything, just like you don't need the space you somehow feel entitled to.

Bro, I don’t know what you want me to say. What am I dodging? I come out to the parade with my family. Sit there in a single spot, without a bunch of extra space being taken up by anything other than our bodies. That is our “space”. I’m saying that any space claimed outside of what you need to comfortably stand and watch the parade is stupid. And the mega set ups are even fricking dumber. A few tables here and there is fine, that would free up so much more space than whatever you tarp Nazis have going on down there now.

We obviously have different ideas of what a “spot” is I guess. Your idea is whatever BS you can grab up before you but up against another homesteader on the neutral ground. Somehow people used to not need that.

There you go with that "need" word again. How lucky for you that what you do is all that is "needed" in your opinion.

People have had large gatherings on the route for decades. Tents and canopies etc all down St Charles since I was a little kid.

I've rented at the columns- and Ive had a place downtown w a viewing station. Both were a blast.

This Saturday was my first Lafayette Mardi Gras. It was awesome! Easy to get in and out. Easy to get in a restaurant and eat. Clean, Safe- decent floats and throws.

It just depends on what you want.

The amount of trash after Thoth was the most I've ever seen. That has to be the parade that throws the most per float. Bacchus wasnt stingy either but Hermes was the best for light up stuff (the new hot catches) this year.

Jesus, y'all are all hardcore about this. There could be a battallion of naked OT10s throwing 5 pound gold bars, and I don't think I'd be there before about 1 pm.

1. May not be able to go to NO
2. Don't want the hustle
3. Want something different

I'm in OB now, going to a dog parade. Apples and oranges. I rode in Orpheus a few years ago, would rather do this on Lundi Gras

I love everything about Mardi Gras and miss it dearly every year when I'm not there as I don't live in N.O. anymore. For those who enjoy it, good for you and I am jealous.

Will be stuck again in front of a computer on Mardi Gras day, and it will be just another Tuesday

We had a decent sized tarp, made friends with all the other tarp families around us and had a blast all day long.

Step up your game bro

When did the ladders and set ups become such a problem? People are always saying it didn’t used to be like this

I think it has to do with the sheer amount of them now. People line up ladders completely blocking anyone else from seeing the parade sometimes. I don’t particularly care, but I can see how it could piss some people off.

This, also chairs and ladders holding spots. I got to St Charles at 630am yesterday and it took me about 15 minutes to find an open spot next to a tree. There wasn’t hardly anyone out there, just a bunch of tarps, chairs, and ladders. If I’m willing to show up earlier than you are willing to roll out of bed, then I shouldn’t have to search for a spot.

Lighten up Francis. It’s pretty weather and a good excuse to hang outside. Find a spot and enjoy life. Those beads won’t bring you happiness.
