attended my first and last Mandeville parade tonight. The parade was billed as Mandevilles largest krew so I was expecting a decent experience for me and the fam

Perhaps we're spoiled after years of attending the real thing in NOLA but this thing was pitiful. Come on northshore, have some dignity

riders were smoking joes on floats and unmasked, the atmosphere was that of a funeral, there was no tailgating, no music, etc. floats pulled by rednecks in pickup trucks.. the King was on his cell phone when he passed me. My son caught beads and cups that were from other Krews, some floats were half filled with riders, ugh I could go on

Was I just unlucky or is this how all the northshore parades are?

Kreme of Eve is more than twice as large and they throw a good bit more.

No. This is it.

Then after, we all go home and do it in the missionary position.

Sometimes our wives are awake,......usually not.

My problem isn't the size or amount of throws. It's the lack of attention to detail and the sloppy delivery

Northshore parades have gone downhill big time. They're nothing like what they used to be... Especially Orpheus.

Eve is better. Hell, it's better than a bunch of the krewes in new orleans that seem to just go through the motions.

20 -30 years ago Orpheus was a good parade.

I can vouch.

Back in the day Orpheus was big and good, this was 10 plus yrs ago though. I think last year or the year before they didn't even do it because they didn't have enough floats.

Makes sense. Krew leadership is clearly just going thru to motions

My understanding was that there was some questionable financial practices that killed it for a couple years.

They were awesome at one point. I can remember the early 2000's Orpheus was a great time.

Eve dangles one bead for a block or two and then drops it. Orpheus used to be solid.

But I thought Mandeville was the greatest city in the world, much better than NOLA?

Pretty much all the suburban parades suck now. Everyone wants to ride in the city. So they northshore, metry, etc parades just take whoever wants to pay. If they enforced rules they would have to kick out so many people that they would no longer have enough to roll.

My wife wanted to go to Dionysus this year. She was telling me all about how she remembered from her childhood how awesome of a parade it was. We always to the Carrollton, et al parades on the first Sunday. Finally I said ok, this year, we will go.

Turrible. 14 floats pulled by trucks, most of which had maybe 3-4 people on a side. She was stunned... she said it maybe 1/5 of what it used to be.

Maybe the 610 stompers should appear in the northshore parades

Last night was great family atmosphere, if that is your thing. The Eve parade is indeed better than present day Orpheus, but it is also on the first weekend of Mardi Gras festivities. A lot of people are either out of town with kids or in the city this weekend.

My group had 2 four years olds, a three year old, and a five month old. All of the kids had a blast, none of them got run over or hurt in any way, none of them cried for any reason, and I drank a lot of beer before and during the parade. Anything else on top of that was lagniappe.
