I am not allergic to onions, I just don't like raw or near raw ones.
I check my burger before eating it when it comes standard with onions and I've requested them held.
I imagine I'd be even more careful were I allergic.

Sure, but I’m not trusting my health to a fast food worker.
And there is always cross contamination. Same knives, surfaces, etc. If you are allergic to onions, you probably shouldn’t eat at a fast food joint at all.
