Not that I ascribe to this theory, but it may be the modern world screwing up the natural order that is causing this seeming burst of mental issues.

People that shouldn’t be having kids are, people that should aren’t, we’re bombarded with false estimations of value and availability with social media.

Of course it’s taking it’s toll on the mind, especially of the young. This exposure from birth to a digital world over a natural one will have some harsh effects.

You’re gonna have a hard time convincing me anyone not on some serious drugs can get shot with a .45 and not be painfully aware of it.
