Yep. That was the drought buster for a severe multi-year drought. They had a good bit of rain and a significant snow pack. That served to jumpstart a cycle of heavy new growth. That new growth dries naturally and becomes fuel. It has happened that way from the dawn of time.

A friend has family out there. Said they import palm trees because the native ones don't look as nice, but the ones who aren't native go up like matchsticks
