Not sure how much DEI takes place at a South Korean company.
None. I work for a South Korean company. They laughed at our CHRO when she brought up diversity in a meeting with Seoul. And I mean that literally. They called her stupid and openly mocked her.

No excuse for a runway designed that way

Looking at the airport in google maps, you can see the area and where the plane would have gone without a barrier. It would have went across a couple of roadways, a small business district and into the water if not stopped by something in its path. Airport Looks to be just a few hundred yards from the water. Looks to be an inlet of the Yellow Sea or East China Sea.

There's a concrete wall not far behind the localizer, that would have had the same result if they had hit it.
It's still early, but it's looking like pilot error now more than the berm being the biggest factor.

Watch Blanco's video. There's a 10' concrete wall that you can't see on the satellite images.

Holy moly. 150
Only reason the 2 FA’s survived is because they sit facing rearward and were able to survive the impact force.

So most died from the impact force and not the huge fireball the impact created?

I'm sure the fireball didn't help, but hitting a concrete wall at 150+mph in an aluminum can usually does the job.

You would think by now we would have engineered ourselves around the bird strike incident

Are we sure the bird strike is directly responsible for the crash?

That’s an overly simplistic comment. Rarely does one factor bring down a plane. It is typically a series of events and bad decisions that lead to a crash.

Really good discussion. Hints on pilots possibly shut down engine #1 mistakingly and engine #2 that had the stall was producing partial power. Possibly the reason they tried to set it down so quickly.
