State inspectors are investigating a Southwest Harbor restaurant for using marijuana to try to sedate lobsters before cooking them.
The Maine Health Inspection Program is investigating Charlotte’s Legendary Lobster Pound but it hasn’t issued any findings yet, said Emily Spencer, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Health and Human Services, the agency that oversees the program. She would not say if the agency had asked the owner, Charlotte Gill, to stop the practice during the investigation.
On Friday, Gill said her infamous “smoked” lobster meat isn’t available to customers right now, but she is confident the restaurant, which she has started calling the official home of the “high-end lobster,” soon will be able to offer cannabis-sedated lobster to informed customers without violating Maine state laws or codes.
“After being contacted by the state, and upon reviewing its present laws and codes applicable to this arena, and then making a few minor adjustments to our procedure, we are completely confident that we will be able to proceed as planned,” Gill said. “Keep in mind this meat is presently not available, and we don’t expect it to be for a little while longer under the circumstances. … Soon though.”

Ive never partaken in the wacky tobacky but those of you connoisseurs, I have a question. Would it hurt significantly less if you were high and boiled alive?

The whole, making sure the lobster feels no pain bullshite is so dumb.

Clever. Get your customers high on your lobster so they'll want even more to munch on.

Ah, yes. I can almost feel that Kennebunkport breeze!

Wait until it's legal here. I would lace EVERYTHING at a restaurant with weed if I owned one. Food sales would double overnight.

nothing but a nice, asian owned family restaurant

That’s a waste of weed.

How do they know this helps the lobsters? For all we know lobsters could feel horrible pain from marijuana.
Seems like a waste of perfectly good weed to me.

WTF? What type of hippie bullshite is this?
I'd consume a lobster that has marijuana in it if it would be like eating any other type of marijuana eatable, but this whole sedating the lobster before boiling them is just stupid.
They pretty much die within seconds.. And it's a shellfish, not a dog.
Plants are alive. Should we sedate weeds before pulling them?

Far closer genetically to bugs than mammals. Pain if any if felt is likely minimal.

I'm so glad my kids get to watch me boil crawfish, filet fish, kill a nuisance critter etc. so they don't grow up to be pussies with feelings.
