A magnitude-5.3 earthquake rattled southern California on Thursday, shaking buildings in the Los Angeles area.

quote:

The quake was centered in the Pacific Ocean, some 35 miles southeast of Channel Islands Beach, Calif., the U.S. Geological Survey said. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. At the USA TODAY bureau in west Los Angeles, the earthquake started slowly as a rolling motion. The quake wasn’t strong enough, however, to cause items to fall off desks.

People here felt it in Los Angeles but somehow I did not. People I were working with were like “OMG did you feel that? And I was like, nah.”

A 5.3 will get your attention, but that is about the limit of it. I typically run to check if there was a big one 100 miles away or if that was a small one right under me.

My guess is that the news will have footage from a grocery store where dozen of jars of pickles bit the dust. They will interview a clerk who will say, "I didn't know what was happening. At first I thought it was just a big truck passing by, but then the pickle jars started crashing, and I knew it was an earthquake. I am just glad it wasn't the big one, or I would be dead."

More likely tax everyone within 100 miles of the epicenter.

Damnit! Experiencing an earthquake is a bucket list item and I almost drove out yesterday to go fishing at Casitas but went to Lake Havasu instead.
