Not from what I've seen. Two of the most respected and admired sportsman of the last 80 90 years have been golfers. Bob Jones and Arnold Palmer.
Treat folks well, acknowledge them. Tip. It is said that golfers, since they are a kind of 'sole- proprietorship', are constantly selling.... Themselves.
Clearly some are more outgoing and affable with the fans, but from what I've seen and heard very few of them act like he does.

As for as his "solid values". People have low points in life, people make decisions they will later regret. No one is perfect, it's not my place to judge a man and just because someone has a bad period through life doesn't make them a bad person.
