First, she prepares the "short rib" the day before she eats it. Even more humiliating.

They're served in nice restaurants; rarely in people's homes. But they're so easy to make. Also. You make them a day ahead of time, pull the layer of fat off when they're cold, and reheat. 10x better and you're only in the kitchen for the reheating/making grits.. 30 minutes max.
I'd say take this advice. It would probably go a long way in terms of making an impression. It's easily prepared, unless they are a vegetarian they will enjoy it and it is associated with being a "higher class" type meal.

My first meal for david was meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and maybe corn
I tried homemade mac & cheese, but I scalded the milk and scrapped it

maybe corn
as in you aren't entirely sure what corn is or don't remember if you cooked corn

This was my kids favorite meal that I cooked. Except not a casserole, but rather green beans and corn cooked in butter, and mixed together. And they would have a bite of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and the beans/corn all together on the fork. True story.

she's the pretty sissy that took handsome randy shoe shopping at the mall, right? i heart your sissies, but it would kill me to see a sissy being treated badly on the o-t....you have to have very thick skin as you well know to survive & thrive here.

do you put vegetables in the meatloaf?
mapkids hate when i do that
now it's just ground-meat 90/10, eggs, milk, italian breadcrumbs and seasoning

I don't. Just the basic simple recipe. And it's one of the few things that I like to dip into the thick and hearty A-1 sauce. Not the black colored one, it has a more red tint.
I always used boxed potatoes which is a travesty. I love fresh mashed potatoes so much, but during the school week, it was such a hassle to make after work.
The greatest thing in life now as I've gotten older, is the phone call or text from the kids asking if I'll make something for them to come over and eat Sunday. They are so sick of takeout food, and love to come home for homecooking, which makes me the happiest.
