LSU student charged in fatal Tigerland bar fight

I read the article, and it sounds like self defense 101. a drunk 26 year old punched his buddy in the back of the head. the kid who was charged exchanged words with the 26 year old. the 26yo swung at this kid. the kid ducked, and pushed the 26yo, who fell and hit his head on the ground and died.
the younger kid was charged with manslaughter...?

This almost was me. I got in a fight in Tigerland after my 21st Bday. Blacked out. I got punched and hit my head on the jacked up concrete falling down in that parking lot, and split it open. Don't remember a thing. Was told by my friend about it. Ambulance picked me up. Spent the next 2 days in the ICU. Worst hangover and headache any man has had ever in their life.
I don't remember one single thing about this night past 7 PM, and it happened at 2 AM.
I can't imagine being Garrett Ward and the hell of spending the next 30-40 years in prison for something I don't even remember. Does anyone know how long the sentencing was for?

Seems like they're going aggressor doctrine, with the key being the two groups separated after the first altercation, and then the guy re-engaging verbally with the 26 yo.
At least they put it before grand jury, they didn't need to.
