Is it worth getting an LSU MBA at the in-state tuition cost or going out of state to a higher ranked program?

Well, what is your background and what do you plan on doing with it?

3 or 4 years ago someone in the admissions department told me "You don't want an MBA from LSU." So I've passed that message on to anyone who asks.

This is not the place to ask questions like this. When will people ever learn?

Some of LSU's MS programs that are more concentrated are probably a better bet if you know what you want to do.
I wouldn't get an MBA from LSU. But I got my MSF in 3 semesters and I am happy I did that.

Background is in program and operation management for non-profits. I plan to be moving towards COO roles with for-profit companies.

YEs, LSU now offers an online MBA.

how long have you been working?
MBA is only good for like 5-10 years.
That is to say if you have 5-10 years real world working experience (degree required position obviously), an MBA likely will not improve your stock any.
It is something for fresh grads to even the playing field with real world experience needed for jobs.

I agree with this to an extent, but there are arenas (healthcare and probably others) where you won't find administrators with only a four year degree.

doesn't LSU require a few years of real world experience as part of their MBA admission requirements?

The average age of an MBA student is like 31.

I did the Professional MBA program at LSU (10-12), and it has paid off for me.
Its all about what you make of it. I've worked with MBAs from many of the top programs, and you're not going to learn any more or less in any of those programs. You will be able to name drop whatever school you went to, but you still have to perform at the career you choose.
To me, an MBA is just a check in a box for later in your career. As long as the employer has heard of the school, it really doesn't matter. I would not recommend an online degree, however. The greatest value you get from a degree like this is networking. Period, point blank.

I want an MBA. People tell me it's pointless, though.
